Main Article: Storage System

"Aerodisk Vostok" is completely domestic. storage systems According to information for 2021, they work on the basis of those created in, Russia software Aerodisk A-Core which is part of, and register of domestic software of the Ministry of Digital Development operating system "Alt" the company "." BASEALT Most of the hardware components of the solutions included in the line are also developed and produced in our country - including the hardware of CJSC "Norsi-Trans" and 8SV processors Elbrus 8S company "."MCST

2023: Inclusion of "Aerodisk Vostok" in the register of PAC Ministry of Digital Development

The company Aero disk"" announced on August 17, 2023 the registration of its flagship product - DSS "VOSTOK" on the Russian processors "" Elbrus- register in hardware and software systems (PAC). Ministry of Digital Development of Russia

The registration procedure took about 2 months. Half of this period was spent on preparing the necessary documents on the side of the company, the same amount was required for consideration and approval of the application in the ministry.

The short registration period was achieved through transparent and understandable algorithms for interaction with the ministry and fine-tuned work mechanisms. DSS became one of the first Russian-made PAC registered in the register of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation.

File:Aquote1.png
This is an important step that not only confirms the quality of products, but also is a kind of turning point in relation to the status of storage and the organizational moments associated with the systems of this profile during development. We are confident that in the future the registration procedures will become even more efficient due to the accumulated experience of interaction between the parties to the process. The registration of DSS in the register of Russian-made PAC is a significant event, since it solves an actual bureaucratic collision. DSS, as an inextricable set of hardware and software, require a specialized approach when registering,
emphasized the general director of the Aerodisk company Vyacheslav Volodkovich.
File:Aquote2.png

So, in the equipment register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, when registering DSS, only the hardware component is taken into account. At the same time, such systems are not an independent product without a software shell - very complex and quite advanced. But even without the corresponding hardware, this shell as a software product also has no value.

Developers of complex and complex software solutions do not fall under the set of benefits due to programmers. Although they do not differ from their colleagues from the segment of "pure" software development.

The decision to include a hardware and software complex in the register is, in fact, an official recognition of the value of the software component in a full-fledged assessment of technological products.

However, despite this significant step, the issue of accounting for Russian software when calculating localization remains unresolved. In public procurement, when considering the level of localization of the product, only the hardware is taken into account, while the software remains outside the scope of the assessment. Aerodisk believes that accounting for Russian software should also become a criterion in assessing local production and hopes for the emergence of appropriate changes in regulation.

With their help, you can organize a storage cluster that supports both consolidation of several AERODISK arrays and "virtualization" of third-party arrays. This implementation supports configurations with up to eight active mode controllers in a single storage cluster.

File:Aquote1.png
"We master the full cycle of DSS production of our lines, from the independent production of the case, boards, adapters and adapters to the assembly of the finished product. In this process, it is planned to create a number of transitional solutions, including the launch of intermediate modifications of controllers that are included in the register, "said Timur Mustafayev, commercial director of Aerodisk.
File:Aquote2.png

Following the results of the application consideration procedure, experts of the Department of Radio-Electronic Industry of the Ministry of Industry and Trade concluded that the level of product localization meets the requirements of the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of July 17, 2015 No. 719.

Testing on the Baikal-M processor

Aerodisk, a Russian developer and manufacturer of innovative solutions in the field of data storage and virtualization, has successfully completed testing of AERODISK Vostok DSS on a processor from the Baikal line. This was announced by the Aerodisk company on May 27, 2022.

Testing was the final stage of a 1-year project, in which the company's developers adapted the installation image of the Aerodisk Vostok DSS operating system for the architecture of the Baikal line processors.

Baikal uses the ARM architecture, which required a large-scale project to adapt the code of the Aerodisk software manager to its features. As a result, all the software functionality is adapted for any ARM processor, including the entire Baikal line. Testing was carried out on the Baikal M processor, and its results allow us to talk about the prospects for installing control software on older and more productive versions of the line's processors, including Baikal S, by the end of 2022.

The Baikal M DSS system will be the first product of this profile in the Aerodiska portfolio and will act as an accessible system for the mass market and typical storage tasks. The decision will be entered into the register of certified IT products of domestic development of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

File:Aquote1.png
The release of DSS on Baikal significantly expands the range of our solutions in terms of supporting various modifications of the hardware component. In fact, there is only one open niche left - support for AMD processors. However, with our work to develop adapters to enhance solution compatibility, it's just a matter of time,
commented on the commercial director of Aerodisk Timur Mustafayev.
File:Aquote2.png

In the future, support for ARM processors is expected to create storage on Baikal S, which will ensure the execution of various high-load workloads characteristic of bank industries various high-load user, applications extensive databases data , etc.

File:Aquote1.png
Working with Baikal S will allow us to create solutions that directly compete with DSS based on h86-architecture, including processors Intel (high-performance Huawei Dorado lines and). {{quote 'The systematic work to create completely domestic IT solutions brought our company another recognition of the expert community at the state level. The inclusion of DSS in the MPT registry well illustrates the achievability of creating IT equipment, absolutely all the components of which are released in our country. Earlier in 2021, general-purpose servers manufactured by Aerodisk were entered into the MPT register, which was an excellent achievement and will serve as a guide in terms of the company's new goals for 2022, "said Vyacheslav Volodkovich, General Director of Aerodisk. }}

Brest PC compatibility

On November 9, 2021, the Astra Linux GC announced that, together with Aerodisk, the compatibility of the Aerodisk Vostok data storage system (DSS) and the Brest virtualization software package was confirmed.

The demand for ON Astra Linux and the massive transition of organizations import-independent to became drivers of the active development of the domestic IT eco-system. In light of this trend, Aerodisk and Astra Linux GC began cooperation aimed at creating joint infrastructure products for the Russian customers and bringing them to a different quality level through the implementation of integrated complex solutions. Earlier, within the framework of the Ready for Astra Linux technology cooperation program, the A-Core Aerodisk system was certified, compatible with protected, and OS Astra Linux Special Edition now a software and hardware complex has been created for creating with virtual servers an environment and resources for developing, testing and prototyping software, as well as for deploying solutions in real working conditions. The DSS line "Aerodisk Vostok" is responsible for the hardware component of the stack virtualizations , and the Brest PC is responsible for the software component in terms of resources. The demand for such offers is high, since import-substituted IT systems Russian DSS virtualization tools are also among the mandatory elements.

To synchronize and test the operability of the two main components of the joint solution, a stand of several servers for Astra Linux operating in conjunction with the Aerodisk Vostok DSS of system and the Brest software was deployed in the Aerodisk laboratories. The tests were completed successfully: the full compatibility of the products was confirmed for file and block access in a fault-tolerant configuration, as evidenced by certificate No. 6378/2021.

File:Aquote1.png
Closer integration of our solutions will create a working environment in which it will become easier to bring customers' IT infrastructures into compliance with import substitution requirements. It doesn't matter if the organization's IT system is created "from scratch" or goes through restructuring - a combination of our solutions and a virtual environment deployed on their basis can be used as a platform for hosting server resources or virtual desktops in order to further completely transfer them to the Russian OS, "said Vyacheslav Volodkovich, CEO of Aerodisk.
File:Aquote2.png

{{quote "Reliable, high-performance DSS plays an important role in this regard, allowing you to place workloads for which a high level of performance is critical for scaling when optimizing services and applications. Combining our capabilities will also allow us to deploy hybrid environments from local server capacity and cloud computing resources - one of the most popular schemes for transforming the IT landscape within the framework of import substitution programs, - said Evgeny Vekshin, Product Director of Astra Linux GC Companies. }}

Enhance integration with the OpenStack platform

Aero disk On October 28, 2021, the company "" announced the completion of a set of work to expand integration its solutions with an ecosystem of cloud infrastructure management tools. OpenStack

OpenStack is a set of tools based on free software for creating and managing infrastructure cloud services and. storages It is rapidly gaining popularity in, among public sector RUSSIAN FEDERATION large operators, DPCs as well as among manufacturers of solutions for. virtualizations OpenStack is used primarily as an orchestrator for managing the infrastructure virtual and components of complex large-scale environments. IT

In line with these trends, Aerodisk launched a project in mid-2021 to expand the integration of its product lines and OpenStack tools to the maximum possible level. The project envisaged the implementation of new interaction capabilities through the organization of block and file access of the platform tools to DSS.

The basic amount of integration between Aerodiska and OpenStack solutions at the file level, as well as partially at the block level, was present earlier. However, at the block level, the functionality of data transmission using the Fibre Channel protocol was worked out in the "minimum configuration." Block-based FC data stores deliver high levels of IT performance that are often used for virtualization tasks.

To unlock the full potential of interaction between the Aerodisk platform and DSS, the updated integration model developed its own Cinder driver responsible for the operation of the block storage. Its configuration takes into account the features of the functionality and architecture of Aerodiska data storage systems, taking into account various models of support for fault tolerance and workload balancing.

File:Aquote1.png
Expanding the integration of our solutions with OpenStack will cover another segment of customers: large data centers, which are the infrastructure basis for Goscloud projects, providing virtualized IT resources to end customers. Also, this integration allows our DSS to successfully interact with Russian virtualization solutions - TIONIX, SCALA-R, zVirt and others, - said Vyacheslav Volodkovich, General Director of Aerodisk.

Development of hi-end DSS of systems on Elbrus processors

On September 15, 2021, Aerodisk announced that it was completing the development of a hi-end data storage system within the Vostok DSS product line.

The Aerodisk Vostok series is implemented on domestic Elbrus processors. As of September 2021, it includes four general-purpose DSS models, fully developed and produced in Russia. The solutions have all the functionality of PO AERODISK A-CORE: they have high availability at the level of "five 9s," smart auto-snapshots, replication, thin volumes, profiles for applications, file and block access, compression and deduplication.

However, the capabilities of existing DSS, even older models, were limited to solving business problems of an average level of performance: it is for them that the capabilities of the classical product architecture and the Elbrus-8C processor are designed. To work with high-level intensive loads, the company began developing DSS with hi-end performance.

File:Aquote1.png
You can achieve high performance on MCST processors, either by waiting for the release of Elbrus-16S, or by redesigning the classic DSS architecture to optimize the computing power of existing domestic processors. Aerodisk went the second way, not excluding the first: through a revision of the approach to the DSS architecture with its "re-assembly" for tasks that require the consumption of large volumes of CCP in intensive mode, - said Vyacheslav Volodkovich, General Director of Aerodisk.
File:Aquote2.png

The project involves all the resources of the company's DSS development department with the task of developing an architecture modification that offloads the load on processor power and buses. The task is solved through the distribution of calculation of virtual arrays and directly operations with data (input/output, write/read). In addition, the ability to use more controllers in DSS and their physical distribution to create modular systems has been added. The minimum starting number of controllers in the hi-end Vostok system is 4, the step of increasing the number is 2.

A prototype of a hi-end 4-controller DSS system for working with complex intensive workloads is already ready in the Aerodiska test laboratory. The software component of the model has already been completed, and hardware testing will begin in early October 2021. Test targets - Support for uninterrupted processing of millions of random I/Os per second.

The development was carried out in an extremely short time: from mid-June 2021 to mid-September 2021. The company expects to launch development into mass production as a top model of the Vostok DSS line by the end of 2021. Target application scenarios will cover the operation of high-load databases, for example, in automated banking systems, support for the operation of billing systems of telecom operators, various large-scale processing systems, IT systems of high-load industries, large-scale ERP systems.

File:Aquote1.png
Splitting workloads between different DSS components is not a new approach to the DSS architecture. In our case, it is implemented on the basis of an inter-controller connection of 100 Gb/sec to minimize delays in maintaining the classical approach in the rest of the solution, "said Vyacheslav Volodkovich, General Director of Aerodisk, the project.
File:Aquote2.png

File:Aquote1.png
The advent of high-end enterprise DSS based on Elbrus processors is a welcome development. If the lower and middle segments of the DSS were previously implemented in the ecosystem around the Elbrus platform, the lack of DSS that gives a performance of one million IOPS gave grounds to criticize the Russian industry for insufficient assortment and inability to meet customer requirements. Now this gap has been eliminated. I congratulate my colleagues from Aerodisk and wish them rapid expansion in the market, "added Konstantin Trushkin, Deputy General Director for Marketing of MCST JSC.

Load testing of Elbrus-based Aerodisk Vostok DSS versus Intel

Aerodisk, a developer of storage and virtualization systems, conducted a lot of load testing. This became known on September 29, 2020. Within its framework, the performance of Aerodisk Vostok DSS of systems on Elbrus processors was compared with the performance of Aerodisk Engine DSS based on Intel processors. As a result, the Aerodisk Vostok DSS of system demonstrated comparable performance with Intel.

In load testing emulating the work of analytical DBMS, Intel surpassed Elbrus; at the same time, in the streaming load emulating the operation of video surveillance or backup systems, Elbrus significantly determined Intel. In tests where the load of transactional DBMSs with a predominance of writing over reading was emulated, both processors showed approximately equal results.

DSS "Aerodisk Vostok" operates on the basis of processors "Elbrus 8C." The line of solutions is represented by several models: the entry-level DSS "Aerodisk Vostok B," the base DSS "Aerodisk Vostok E12," the senior general-purpose model "Aerodisk Vostok E24," the super-dense system "Aerodisk Vostok E124," designed to store large arrays, data as well as the two-control DSS "Aerodisk Vostok 2B" and "Aerodisk Vostok 2E," which provide a high level of fault tolerance.

File:Aquote1.png
We carried out various works to optimize the software, adapting it to the processors of the e2k architecture, and were able to get decent performance indicators of the system on the Elbrus processor. Of course, there is still something to work on, but we are looking to the future with great positivity and enthusiasm: if we evaluate the test results on a five-point scale, then this is a solid four with a plus, "sums up the general director of Aerodisk Vyacheslav Volodkovich. - Sometimes in our work we face distrust of domestic processors. Practice shows that such skepticism is quite easily parried by real results.
File:Aquote2.png

In addition, in September 2020, the Aerodisk Vostok DSS of system is being tested, which is based on the improved kernel Linux 5.4. By the end of 2020, Aerodisk plans to release this system into production and publish the test results.

File:Aquote1.png
This testing was carried out on the Linux 4.19 kernel, which began to be used for the e2k architecture back in 2019. We expect that with the release of the Linux 5.4 kernel, the performance indicators of Aerodisk Vostok DSS will improve significantly. In addition, the Elbrus 8CV processor will be available very soon. As for more distant plans, with the release of the 16-core Elbrus-16C processor, domestic processors will be able to compete with foreign processors already at the enterprise level. Everything indicates that the e2k architecture will not be inferior to the AMD64 architecture, adds Vyacheslav Volodkovich.

The software product was created and developed jointly by BASEALT and IVK.

Certification of the FSTEC of Russia allows the use of domestic software and hardware complexes to those companies that require special protection of personal data and confidential information, including at critical information infrastructure facilities. Thus, in strategically important industries, the Aerodisk Vostok DSS system can be used, which runs on Elbrus 8S processors running Alt OS. It is also important for building a digital environment for organizations whose employees work both in offices and remotely.

File:Aquote1.png
The Alt 8 SP OS distribution received the FSTEC of Russia certificate in 2018, recently our OS passed inspection control, and its action extended to the version for Elbrus processors. The operating system distribution for servers and workstations has built-in information protection software. In addition, Alt 8 SP, like most of our products, is included in the Unified Register of Russian Software. Thus, we provide customers with the opportunity to build a trusted digital infrastructure based on domestic Russian technologies,
told Deputy General Director of BASEALT Alexey Novodvorsky
File:Aquote2.png

File:Aquote1.png
FSTEC certification will be an important argument when choosing DSS for government agencies and enterprises. This is a good offer for the business, which is important for protecting confidential information and personal data of customers. The Vostok series is focused, among other things, on companies that care about a good ratio of performance, sustainability and cost of the solution. In the future, we plan to use Alt OS for the Aerodisk Engine line, Enterprise Storage with high performance and fault tolerance,
