2024: Construction of the plant for 7 billion rubles

On April 9, 2024, the Committee on Industrial Policy, Innovation and, to trade St. Petersburg JSC "" Special economic zone "Saint Petersburg(SEZ) and Fort LLC entered into a tripartite agreement. It makes the enterprise "Fort" (F.O.R.T., the project of JSC Baltic Industrial Company"") a full resident of the SEZ, which means the beginning of the creation of Russia a large machine tool plant.

According to RBC, as of April 2024, there is no serial production of modern machines in Russia. Meanwhile, the demand for domestic metal-cutting equipment is growing in the industrial sector. This is due to the fact that in the current geopolitical situation, the supply of products from Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, the USA, Japan and a number of other countries stopped. At the same time, the existing local foci of machine tool building do not solve the global problem of technological sovereignty. "Fort" is the first major project in the relevant area in several decades.

"Fort"
will create a large machine tool plant

As part of the initiative, a lease will be issued at the new site of the Parnas SEZ and a permit will be issued for the construction of the buildings of the new plant. The company will be engaged in the production of horizontal boring machines and milling three- and five-axis machining centers for the space industry, aviation and other areas of mechanical engineering. It is expected that "Fort" will be able to produce from 150 to 300 units of machine tools per year.

The volume of investments in the project will be at least 7 billion rubles. It is planned to complete the construction of the plant within two years. The estimated number of jobs created is about 400. Yuri Churkin, General Director of Fort Machine Tool Plant LLC, notes that the modern design solutions used and the full production cycle of future controlled-cost machines will ensure high competitiveness of products. According to him, "the nomenclature of machines planned for production is produced in the Russian Federation in insufficient volume."[1]
