3Logic Group Abandonment of Project

The Russian 3Logic Group has abandoned a planned joint project with the Chinese company Open SourceOpen Source China (OSChina) to create a platform in Russia for hosting IT project repositories and their joint development gitee.ru. Instead, 3Logic Group launched a non-OSChina repository gitlife.ru. This became known in August 2024.

OSChina, the creator of the world's second largest open source platform Gitee, planned to organize a joint venture with Russian partners to localize Gitee in the Russian Federation and promote Chinese open source products. However, these plans were never implemented.

According to Anastasia Denisova, head of the PR service of the 3Logic Group, the gitee.ru site does not work as of August 2024, and the hosting of repositories has been transferred to a new platform gitlife.ru. At the same time, she noted that the new platform will include not only developments created by the largest Chinese developer community Gitee, but also other open source projects.

The gitee.ru domain was registered back in January 2020, but at that time it did not belong to the 3Logic Group, but was with cyber squatters. The gitlife.ru domain was registered on January 28, 2022 by some unnamed private individual.

RTK IT LLC Rostelecom Kirill Pikhtovnikov, deputy general director for production (group ""), suggested that if the mobile version of the site does gitlife.ru use Gitee's developments, then this may indicate a deeper Russian localization of the platform, and not a complete termination of cooperation. According to him, several open source repositories of different levels are already operating in Russia, and while their competition does not affect the quality of services for developers, one should not pay much attention to this.^[1]

3Logic Group and Xellon, which is part of its structure, are creating a platform in Russia for hosting IT project repositories and their joint development gitee.ru. Corporate customers from Russia with the help of gitee.ru will be able to use the most advanced open source projects from China, in particular, on technologies of LLM and AI technologies.

The need to create a Russian platform for storing source code is long overdue. In the development of this initiative, we decided to go a different way: not create a repository from scratch, but build it around an existing expertise and a large community. Open source software development in China is at the highest level. Our project, on the one hand, invites Russian teams and developers to store their code on the Russian infrastructure, on the other hand, to have access to developments and build interaction with Chinese colleagues, - said Alexander Kaloshin, project manager of the gitee.ru company Xellon.
