2024: Anton Sirenko acquired 34% of the company

Former CEO of the Russian office of Sony Pictures Anton Sirenko acquired a 34% stake in the company "Committee," which produces series for video services. This became known on May 29, 2024.

According to Vedomosti, citing data from SPARK-Interfax, the remaining shares in Committee LLC are distributed between the founders of the Hydrogen film company Alexander Andryushchenko and Mikhail Vrubel, each of whom owns 33%.

The company "Committee," according to Sirenko, directs investments in the purchase and development of scenarios, the development of projects, as well as in the shooting of pilot episodes. The total budget of these initiatives is estimated at several hundred million rubles. The company currently has 20 projects in its portfolio, of which seven are scheduled to go into production in 2024-2025.

Mikhail Vrubel noted that the partners have already held preliminary negotiations with major online platforms such as Wink, Kinopoisk, Premier, Kion and Okko. These negotiations have led to the agreements reached on cooperation, and now there is a final discussion on what projects and with whom will be implemented.

Andryushchenko and Vrubel will continue to work on Hydrogen projects, but in the Committee they plan to take a studio approach, which will allow them to focus more on production, trusting the team to create projects. Andryushchenko stressed that in serial production there is no such dependence on box office receipts as in films, and the potential audience of online platforms is much wider.

According to Vedomosti, the Hydrogen film company, founded by Andryushchenko, Vrubel and Alexander Voitinsky in 2011, is known for its successful projects, such as the fantastic dilogy Attraction and Invasion, as well as the Ice trilogy. Hydrogen is part of the National Media Group, and since 2020 the company has received a priority right to receive state subsidies from the Cinema Fund.

Series production is becoming increasingly important for video services, allowing them to attract and retain audiences. In 2023, video services in Russia released 209 original projects, which is 33% more than in 2022. These projects not only help to retain users, but also become a significant source of income through licensing and sale to third-party platforms, - noted in SPARK-Interfax[1]
