2024: T-FLEX PLM implementation

Samara University has implemented T-FLEX PLM in the educational process of the KiPDLA department. This was reported to "Top Systems" on June 5, 2024.

The educational process was revised taking into account modern trends in the field of engineering:
1. Increasing the level of integration of mathematical models. The emergence of FSI calculations, then the development of digital twins based on 1D modeling; 2. Transfer part of model calculations from calculators to designers.
Appearance of relevant tools. For example, Workbench stood out from the classic ANSYS, then ANSYS AIM from it. The appearance of calculation modules in many mid-range CAD packages;
3. Development of new ways of teamwork on projects, including top-down design, dynamic assemblies and virtual reality;
4. A significant advance of Russian CAD, ready to offer affordable, reliable and functional products, the capabilities of which are sufficient for most engineers.

The Department of Design and Design of Aircraft Engines back in the 90s relied on the prompt introduction of CAD into the educational and research process. Therefore, the transition from individual CAD-, CA-, PDM systems to PLM with a digital product twin is the next logical step for the university.

Previously, a bundle of Siemens NX, Ansys and MSC.ADAMS packages was used for modeling.

T-FLEX PLM:
1. It has a lower cost entry threshold than the previously used foreign counterpart (both in terms of licensing and training costs)
2. T-FLEX PLM is initially focused on Russian standards
3. T-FLEX PLM does not carry the cargo of previous developments
4. T-FLEX PLM has available technical support and good educational materials in Russian, including video.

Also T-FLEX PLM has important characteristics for training future engineers:
1. This is a medium-heavy CAD, not a medium
2. It has high module integration;
3. Contains a large set of modules, including VR;
4. It has the ability to directly import from a large number of packages;
5. Works stably;

Since 2018, there has been internal testing of software and the preparation of methodological manuals, for example, on the calculation of the GTE rotor. Since 2020, one class has been introduced under the discipline "Introduction to the Specialty," dedicated to demonstrating the work of T-FLEX VR to study the design of engines.

In 2022, the T-FLEX CAD → VR bundle was tested → Dynamics → Analysis for modeling piston ICE on one subgroup of students as part of summer information practice.

In 2023, the curriculum of the whole group in the field of training "Aircraft Engines" was approved under the motto "End-to-end training - End-to-end model," which declared the gradual transfer of structural modeling to T-FLEX PLM products, where possible. Accordingly, in the fall of 2023, a study group was recruited, the students of which will have to complete their studies in 2027.

The disciplines according to the curriculum are built in accordance with the virtual design algorithm and the rule: one semester - training, the next - calculation work. Thus, on the basis of T-FLEX PLM, end-to-end training in the specialty "Aircraft Engines" was implemented, taking into account modern trends in the field of engineering work.
