Street cameras in Russia began to record smoking in the wrong places and ask smokers to stop doing this

In Russia, they began to introduce a new generation video analytics system that can not only record smoking in the wrong places, but also turn to violators with a request to stop doing this. As it became known on July 29, 2024, Tatarstan became the first region where such technology was launched.

The system was developed by NtechLab based on artificial intelligence. The technology uses machine vision to detect people who smoke and generates voice calls to them, similar to the work of popular voice assistants.

Three IT parks were selected as pilot sites for testing the new system: two in Kazan and one in Naberezhnye Chelny. Implementation is carried out within the framework of an agreement between NtechLab and the government of Tatarstan. The use of artificial intelligence to monitor the observance of public order can become an effective tool in the fight against violations.

NtechLab CEO Alexei Palamarchuk stressed that this is a new stage in the evolution of video analytics, and expressed satisfaction that the technology is being tested for the first time in the Republic of Tatarstan, one of the leading regions for the implementation of digital technologies in Russia.

The Minister of Digital Development of Public Administration, Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Tatarstan Airat Khairullin noted that the introduction of new generation video analytics opens up additional opportunities to increase the level of security and efficiency in various spheres of the republic.

It is planned that similar video analytics systems with control impact through speech will be launched in pilot mode in other regions of Russia. The list of cities where the technology is expected to be introduced includes, Moscow,, Nizhny Novgorod, and Crimea. Sevastopol Murmansk Arkhangelsk
