2024: Calculations for the construction of a tunnel in Sevastopol

SIMETRA has developed a section of transport and economic surveys for the construction of a tunnel and the reconstruction of a section of the highway in the center of Sevastopol. The customer of the project is the Directorate for the Development of Road Transport Infrastructure of Sevastopol. Simetra announced this on June 17, 2024.

The new tunnel will connect part of the city on the street. General Petrov on the site from the street. Ochakovtsev to the street. Pozharov, where the connectivity of the road network is broken in June 2024. With the advent of the tunnel, the transport accessibility of the park of the Museum and Memorial Complex "Defenders of Sevastopol in 1941-1942" on Cape Khrustalny from the embankment and Artillery Bay will be ensured.

Within the framework of the project, SIMETRA specialists measured the intensity of traffic and pedestrian flows on a given site, analyzed the existing transport network, assessing the volume of traffic flows.

To assess the prospects for the development of the territory adjacent to the future tunnel, a master plan was analyzed and plans for the development of the road network in the tunnel area for a 20-year perspective were determined.

SIMETRA also developed a transport model, with the help of which calculations of the predicted traffic intensity were made along the planned tunnel. It is planned that the length of the tunnel will be 254 meters, two lanes of traffic will be organized.

SIMETRA transport engineers analyzed the current situation with transport in the area of the future tunnel and predicted traffic intensity for the future, taking into account many factors. This will help us optimize transport and pedestrian flows and in the future quickly solve transport problems arising in this area, - said Denis Karkovsky, head of the department for supporting design and survey work of the Directorate for the Development of Road Transport Infrastructure of the city of Sevastopol.

We took measurements, transport model and calculations on the new designed tunnel in the city center. The construction of the tunnel and the reconstruction of the road will help divert traffic from the center and relieve traffic there. In general, the new tunnel will allow residents of Sevastopol to more conveniently move around the city, including in the area of the memorial park, - said Sergey Blakitny, head of the transport planning group of SIMETRA Group.
