2024: BaseALT Creates AltPhone Mobile OS

The Russian company BASEALT, known for developing the ALT Linux operating system, has begun creating its own mobile operating system called AltPhone. This became known on August 13, 2024. The initiative is aimed at expanding the line of domestic software products and strengthening the technological independence of Russia in the field of mobile devices.

According to RBC, the new operating system will be based on open source code, including the Linux kernel and software components from the independent repository of the Sisyphus project. Representatives of BASEALT confirmed that AltPhone is being actively developed for August 2024, but the exact timing of the product's market launch and the volume of investments in the project have not yet been disclosed.

Dmitry Komissarov, co-founder of the Strigo Capital venture fund, estimates potential investments in AltPhone development at "several hundred million rubles," which is significantly lower than the cost of creating a platform from scratch thanks to the use of open source code.

According to Komissarov, AltPhone will take at least two to three years to reach a level that meets the requirements of the modern market. The key success factors will be energy optimization, support for parallel process processing and full use of all the hardware capabilities of smartphones.

AltPhone developers face a number of serious tasks. First of all, it is necessary to ensure a high level of system security, including reliable isolation of applications and their data.

Ilya Kryuchkov, product manager "MyOffice" of mobile applications, notes that the market for mobile operating systems in Russia is already quite saturated, but foreign platforms still occupy dominant positions Android. iOS

A representative of Open Mobile Platforms emphasizes the importance of ensuring a high level of security, including application isolation and user data protection, as well as the need to create convenient tools for application developers.[1]
