MedUza 008 (HIFU system)

Controlled by the state corporation Rostec, the Radioelectronic Technologies Concern (KRET) has developed a mobile HIFU-therapy device MedUza 008 for non-invasive "operations without a scalpel." This became known in August 2024.

According to Rostec, the new device is compact, mobile and able to comprehensively solve the problems of diagnostics, high-intensity ultrasound therapy (HIFU) and real-time exposure control.

According to Andrei Guryanov, General Director of the Electroavtomatika Design Bureau (part of the KRET), the MedUza 008 apparatus is undergoing technical and toxicological tests. It is planned that the first clinical use of equipment in a medical institution will take place in the first quarter of 2025 after receiving the necessary registration documents.

As noted in Rostec, the MedUza 008 device will become the first domestic HIFU equipment that combines mobility, compactness and several applications. With the help of focused ultrasound of high intensity, it can be used for "scalpel-free surgery" to combat benign and small malignant neoplasms of the mammary and thyroid glands, as well as the pathology of varicose veins.

According to a representative of Rostec, the device has not only improved characteristics, but also a lower cost compared to potential foreign competitors. In addition, as part of the modernization, a new more ergonomic body of the device has been developed.

The main innovation in the development of MedUzy 008 will be the installation of a collaborative robot. As noted by Andrei Guryanov, the use of robots will help improve the methods and speed of non-invasive surgery, as well as achieve millimeter accuracy when exposed to and fixed the therapy zone.^[1]
