2024: Chery unveils its first flying car
On October 18, 2024, the Chinese company Chery unveiled its first flying car. The vehicle, dubbed the Land and Air Vehicle, is designed to run in fully automatic mode.
The machine is built on the architecture of Chery S2ma-scalable intelligent Mars. The car consists of three main parts: an aircraft, an intelligent cockpit and an intelligent chassis. The latter looks like a sports car. The vehicle has no steering wheel, no steering wheel, no pedals. Land and Air Vehicle can switch between autonomous ground driving and autonomous flight modes. In the second case, take-off and landing are carried out vertically.
The flying car is designed for two people. As conceived by Chery, the car will be used to travel relatively short distances - primarily in urban conditions. Thanks to the ability to move through the air, passengers will be able to avoid traffic jams and save time significantly. In addition, the novelty can be used for sightseeing in megacities or, for example, landscapes from a bird's eye view. In the air, Land and Air Vehicle can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h. Flight altitude does not exceed 1000 m, duration - not more than 40 minutes.
As noted by the resource CarNewsChina, by October 2024, other Chinese companies, including Xpeng, GAC, SAIC and Geely, demonstrated their versions of flying cars. It is noted that taking into account the formed trend in the development of flying vehicles, their commercialization can occur faster than the public expects - as in the case of unmanned vehicles. A deterrent may be issues of ensuring safety when operating such machines in megacities.[1]
