2024: Equipping Intelligent Transport Systems Laboratory 2.0 with a RITM3 system

In St. Petersburg, on the basis of Peter the Great Polytechnic University (SPbPU), the Laboratory of Intelligent Transport Systems 2.0 began work. The updated scientific competence center was created with the support of SIMETRA Group of Companies and is equipped with a domestic platform for transport modeling of RITM³. Simetra announced this on October 28, 2024.

Cooperation between the Higher Engineering and Economic School of the Institute of Industrial Management, Economics and Trade of SPBPU and SIMETRA began in 2021 - the first ITS Laboratory appeared on the basis of the university, where students under the guidance of experienced practitioners from SIMETRA received skills in transport planning and modeling of transport flows. In 2022, the university, with the support of the vendor, also launched the master's educational program "Economics and transport planning of ecosystems." The interdisciplinary program is designed for four semesters and includes economic and engineering disciplines.

The scientific center was equipped with foreign software, the developer of which stopped renewing licenses to Russian users. ITS 2.0 laboratory based on VIESH will train students on a completely domestic RITM³ platform. The solution is a proprietary development of the SIMETRA team, implemented in several regions of Russia and allows solving the problems of monitoring, modeling and management of the transport system at the level of the region, city or industrial facility.

We are pleased that our graduates will enter the labor market with real skills in the field of modeling and transport planning. When foreign vendors, universities and domestic software developers leave Russia to replace foreign solutions, it is important to work together. This will form a community of professionals who are committed to Russian development, - commented Dmitry Rodionov, director of the Higher Engineering and Economic School.

SIMETRA experts will continue to teach courses in disciplines such as Intelligent Transport Systems and Transport Planning and Modelling. Students will receive comprehensive information about the standards and state programs that regulate the creation of ITS in Russia, master the design of documentation for ITS projects, and also learn how to evaluate individual events and decisions in their composition.

As part of the course on transport planning, undergraduates will be told about the intricacies of this process, from collecting data to forming a transport forecast, taking into account the calculations of transport demand and supply.

All the knowledge gained by future specialists will be able to work out on the Russian RITM³ platform. SIMETRA celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024. Every year 10-15 young specialists come to the company, and we are glad that many of them are already familiar with our developments and are able to get involved in the work on projects in a short time. We appreciate our cooperation with the Polytechnic University and believe that it lays the foundation for the formation of a community around Russian technologies, "added Vladimir Shvetsov, CEO of SIMETRA.
