2025: Product Announcement
HMD introduced the OffGrid compact keychain in January 2025, providing satellite communication for any smartphone via the Skylo satellite network.
According to HMD, the 94×60×12 mm device allows you to exchange text messages of up to 140 characters via a satellite connection anywhere in the world with the OffGrid application installed on your smartphone.
The keychain is equipped with IP68 moisture and dust protection and is certified according to the military MIL-STD-810H standard. The device has a built-in speaker, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou sensors and a sensor for communication with Echostar and Viasat satellites according to the NTN 23/255/256 specification.
The main functions of the device are location, sending SOS signals and messaging. The location tracking function works independently of the subscription, which allows emergency search of the user by rescue services.
The battery life of the key fob is about three days. The device supports satellite coverage in regions, North America,, and Canada Europe. Australia New Zealand
The company offers two tariff plans: with unlimited SMS for $140 per year and with a limit of 350 messages for $80 per year. The cost of the device itself is $200.
The Overwatch x Rescue system, integrated into the device, coordinates 10,000 rescue operations annually through 940 search and rescue agencies. To activate emergency assistance, just press and hold the SOS button.
To connect to the service, the user needs to scan the QR code on the device and activate the subscription. The minimum subscription period is 12 months, with the option to connect an additional option of unlimited tracking in real time.
The device is designed for use in extreme conditions and places without cellular communication, providing constant ability to communicate and determine the user's location.[1]
