1.6% reduction in car production to 147.4 thousand units

In January 2025, it became known that the Bureau of National Statistics of Kazakhstan recorded a decrease in the production of vehicles to 147.4 thousand units in 2024, which is 1.6% less than in 2023.

According to the results of 2024, the production of passenger cars in Kazakhstan amounted to 134 thousand units, having decreased by 0.1%, freight - 7.7 thousand units, having decreased by 22.2%, buses - 2.9 thousand units with a drop of 6.1%. Also produced 2.1 thousand trailers and semi-trailers, 665 units of special equipment.

Car production reduced in Kazakhstan

The Kostanay Allur plant leads in terms of production with an indicator of 90.5 thousand units of equipment, increasing production by 0.3%. Almaty Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan produced 45.4 thousand cars, reducing production by 7.1%.

In Semipalatinsk, the SemAZ plant increased the production of commercial equipment by 12.8% to 4.3 thousand units. QazTehna in Sarani reduced production by 12.5% to 1.6 thousand units. KAMAZ Engineering in Kokshetau increased production by 15.5% to 1.5 thousand trucks.

Despite a slight decrease in production volumes, the auto industry is still the main driver of mechanical engineering in Kazakhstan, occupying 41% of the total industry, the Kazakhstan Automobile Union notes.

In the ranking of the most popular produced passenger brands, the leader Hyundai is 45.4 thousand units, followed by Chevrolet 39.3 thousand, Kia 24.1 thousand, Jac 13.7 thousand and Jetour - 11.3 thousand units.

For models, the largest production volume fell on Chevrolet Cobalt - 33.8 thousand units, Hyundai Tucson - 21.9 thousand, Kia Sportage - 9.2 thousand, Hyundai Elantra - 8 thousand and Jetour X70 - 5.3 thousand units.

The number of employees at eight automobile enterprises in Kazakhstan increased to 6.5 thousand people. Taking into account related industries and dealerships, more than 50 thousand specialists are employed in the automotive sector.[1]

Car sales growth 3.2% to 205,111 units

The Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAO) in mid-January 2025 reported an increase in sales of new cars and commercial vehicles in the country by 3.2% to 205,111 units in 2024. This was a record figure in the history of the country's automotive market.

According to Avtostat"," the leader of the Kazakh car market was a brand Hyundai with a share of 21.6%, which sold 44,218 cars, which is 5.4% less than in 2023. The second place was taken Chevrolet with a result of 30,927 units, reducing sales by 32.5%.

Car sales increased in Kazakhstan

The third position is occupied by the Kia brand, which sold 23,045 cars, which is 9.6% less than in 2023. The fourth and fifth places were taken by Chinese manufacturers: Chery with sales growth of 21.7% to 14,883 units and JAC, which increased sales by 56.7% to 11,771 cars.

According to the Kazakh Automobile Union, the Chevrolet Cobalt sedan with a result of 26,537 copies sold became the leader in the model rating. The second and third places were taken by Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage crossovers with indicators of 22,389 and 8,834 units, respectively.

In December 2024, sales reached 25,570 vehicles, up 8.6% from December 2023. For the third month in a row, monthly sales in the country exceed 20 thousand units.

The growth of the market is ensured by increased competition between manufacturers and the expansion of offers from official dealers. The increase in the presence of Chinese brands showing the greatest dynamics of sales growth is especially noticeable.

The sales structure shows a shift in demand towards crossovers and sedans of the budget segment, which reflects the preferences of Kazakh consumers. At the same time, traditional market leaders retain their positions, despite a slight decrease in sales volumes.[2]
