2024: Sunflower harvest in Russia reached 16.6 million tons

Rosstat recorded an increase in the gross collection of sunflower seeds in Russia to 16,574,4 thousand tons in 2024, which is 7.8% more than in 2019 and 95.4% higher than in 2014. Such data were published in January 2025.

According to the Agroanalytika Center, the Saratov Region became the leader in sunflower production, collecting 2,030,4 thousand tons, which is 12.3% of the all-Russian volume. The second place was taken by the Orenburg region with an indicator of 1,861,9 thousand tons and a share of 11.2%, increasing the fee by 29.7% for the year.

In third place is the Rostov region, where 1,570,1 thousand tons of sunflower were harvested. The fourth position was taken by the Volgograd region with a yield of 1,409,6 thousand tons, the fifth - the Voronezh region with an indicator of 1,187,0 thousand tons.

The top ten producers also included the Samara region with a yield of 1,178,3 thousand tons, the Altai Territory - 1,151,3 thousand tons, the Krasnodar Territory - 929.9 thousand tons, the Tambov Region - 843.3 thousand tons and the Penza Region - 582.3 thousand tons.

According to the analytical center "AB-Center," the total share of ten leading regions in the all-Russian production of sunflower exceeds 75%. This indicates a high concentration of production in the main agricultural regions of the country.

Over the past ten years, sunflower production in Russia has shown steady growth, increasing by more than 8 million tons. Such a significant increase is provided by both the expansion of sown areas and an increase in crop yield.

High indicators of sunflower production in 2024 were achieved due to favorable weather conditions, the use of modern agricultural technologies and state support for agricultural producers. These factors contributed to increased crop yields and seed quality in the major crop growing regions.^[1]
