The Russian Meat Products holding implements ITSM in an information system of the enterprises

The Softline company started project implementation of upgrade of IT infrastructure of Russian Meat Products holding (RMP) based on the implemented pilot implementation of the centralized control system of IT infrastructure of System Center Configuration Manager and SCOM monitoring (System Center Operations Manager).

Reasons and backlogs

With growth of RMP holding the IT infrastructure scale, its branching increased, the quantity of items of equipment, volume of the used software products, complexity of network communications increased.

The holding when implementing the project set as the purpose to increase effective management of infrastructure and level of information security, to provide the maximum high-speed performance of all information and analytical systems and also to timely obtain up-to-date information about a current status of infrastructure. At the same time reduction in cost of operation of IT infrastructure and costs for its development was important.

As an optimal variant of increase in efficiency product-based complete solutions of System Center Configuration Manager and System Center Operations Manager are selected.

Implementation

Within pilot project stage technical works are carried out and the main services the Configuration Manager systems are customized. One of them – inventory of the software.

Thanks to this functionality the possibility of the centralized software installation appeared. Transition to a single information platform helps the system administrator to monitor all software used in the organization and to prevent installation of non-licensed products.

Taking into account the developed and geographically distributed IT infrastructure of holding, the system of active monitoring is implemented. Therefore SCOM monitoring implementation became one more area of work within upgrade of IT infrastructure. A system allows to configure automatic reaction to these or those events by means of start of the programs PowerShell, vbs-or cmd-scripts. Therefore failures of the network, server hardware and applications can be eliminated still before the administrator or users learn about them.

Opinion

"Now the system administrator by clicking only of one button can obtain complete reliable information according to "software" and "iron" used in the company that allows to simplify significantly further updating of infrastructure, to automate routine transactions. So, if the companies are necessary new programs, then it is necessary to set their parameters in a basic configuration. A system will show what of these programs correspond to the current configuration and what – are not present. As for "iron", a system will report whether it satisfies the current equipment to these or those requirements, or about need of upgrade", – Vladimir Vysotsky, the associate director on IT of RMP holding explains. - We have an opportunity to look at reports for any period and on the basis of these data to designate weak points of infrastructure by the analysis of the repeating incidents and to eliminate them. By means of pro-active monitoring it is easier to exclude idle times now and it is simpler to control IT infrastructure, it is possible to plan flexibly the next stages of upgrade".
