2024: Introduction of payment for travel by geoposition
Kostroma introduces payment for travel by geoposition. Digital Transport and Logistics (CTL) announced this on January 27, 2025.
The geoposition payment system will be implemented on 258 vehicles serving 32 routes in the city. Now residents of Kostroma and guests of the city will be able to quickly and conveniently pay for travel through a special mobile application without applying a smartphone or card to the terminal and without using cash to pay. Only a smartphone is enough for this. Users will be able to form a route, track the time of arrival of the bus and pay in just two clicks. The money will be debited instantly from the linked bank card, and an electronic ticket will also be created.
The launch was attended by Deputy Governor of the Kostroma Region Yuri Makov, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Dmitry Bakanov, Chairman of the Public Council under the Ministry of Transport Tatyana Gorovaya, and Vice President of Sberbank Mikhail Chachin.
The introduction of fare payment in public transport by geolocation makes the process of using transport as convenient as possible for passengers and cost-effective for carriers. For Kostroma, where digital technologies are already successfully used for the development of public transport, the transition to geolocation payment becomes a logical step. This approach opens up opportunities to improve the quality of transport services and makes them more accessible to the people of the region. The technology developed by the Ministry of Transport of Russia has already found application in a number of subjects of the country and has shown its effectiveness both on urban routes and on railway lines. In those regions where this system has already been implemented, passengers have made almost 11 million trips, which confirms the demand and convenience of this solution. Interest in the technology continues to grow both among regions and developers who are actively creating new services based on it, "said Dmitry Bakanov, Deputy Minister of Transport of Russia. |
The Kostroma region is one of the first regions that has been most actively involved in resolving issues related to the renewal of the passenger transportation organization system. This is the task set by the President. The region has undertaken all obligations to update the transport system in the regional capital. And people note that driving has become much more convenient, more comfortable. The work on the modernization of the transport system was successful. At the same time, we do not stop there. Together with our partners, we are introducing another system of non-cash payment for travel in public transport in Kostroma, in which it is enough just to have a smartphone with you. We know that the geoposition payment technology developed by the Ministry of Transport of Russia in 2022 is already operating in a number of Russian cities. And we are happy to join the project, including hoping that in the future we will be able to integrate these technologies for suburban and inter-municipal transport, - commented the deputy governor of the Kostroma region Yuri Makov. |
