2025: Receiving a ₽250 million grant to create laser technologies for medicine

The first Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov became the winner of an open grant competition of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and received funding in the amount of ₽250 million to create the first university center in Russia for collective use "Center for Laser Technologies in Medicine." The project is being implemented within the framework of the departmental program "Infrastructure Development of Science and Higher Education," aimed at updating the material and technical base of scientific organizations. This was reported by representatives of Sechenov University on August 14, 2025.

The new center will be located in the Scientific and Technological Park of Biomedicine, Sechenov University. The main task of the unit being created is to accelerate the transition of medical innovations from basic science to clinical practice, where clinicians, scientists and engineers will jointly develop new medical devices and equipment based on laser technologies.

Dmitry Telyshev, head of the collective use center, director of the Institute of Bionic Technologies and Engineering of the First Moscow State Medical University, announced two main directions for the development of the new division. Specialists will study the interaction of laser radiation with biological tissues and the development of additive technologies for 3D printing of medical devices from biocompatible materials.

According to the publication, the university has already accumulated experience in implementing projects in the field of laser medical technologies. Together with Rosatom RDS, the LaserTul laser apparatus was developed, designed to perform operations in open and endoscopic surgery.
