2023: Russia and Tajikistan sign agreement on joint work on cybersecurity

On June 19, 2023, Russia and Tajikistan concluded an agreement on joint work on cybersecurity. This document was told in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of the Russian Federation.

The agreement between Russia and Tajikistan on cooperation in the field of international information security (IIB) was signed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Mukhriddin.

The document confirms the strategic nature of the partnership between Russia and Tajikistan, shows the proximity or coincidence of approaches to the IIB. It is aimed at further developing interaction in accordance with the UN Charter, primarily its principles of sovereign equality of states and non-interference in their internal affairs, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Earlier, an agreement was concluded on the interaction of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation and the National Bank of Tajikistan on the issue of countering computer attacks. This agreement will formalize the process of exchanging information about threats in the field of information security between the financial regulators of the two countries, the Russian regulator said. Chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan Hokim Kholikzoda, in turn, expressed satisfaction with the effective cooperation of the Central Banks of the two countries, noting that Russia is one of the main trade, economic and financial partners of Tajikistan. He called the signed agreement a timely and necessary step to protect the banking system of the two countries from information threats.[1]

2021: Russian government approves CIS agreement on cybersecurity cooperation

On April 28, 2021, the press service of the Government of the Russian Federation announced that Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree approving an agreement on cooperation between the CIS countries in the field of cybersecurity.

Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree approving an agreement on cooperation between the CIS countries in the field of cybersecurity

This agreement, signed back in September 2018 as part of a meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State in Dushanbe, involves the creation of modern legal mechanisms for the practical interaction of Russian competent authorities with colleagues from other CIS countries to effectively prevent, detect, suppress, investigate and solve crimes in the field of information technology.

Among other things, the agreement should provide cooperation in the exchange of information on upcoming or committed crimes and those involved in them, the execution of requests for assistance in providing information that can help in the investigation, as well as coordinated operations, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reports.
