2024: Russian schoolchildren win gold models at International Astronomical Olympiad
Russian schoolchildren won six gold medals at the III Open International Astronomical Olympiad, which was held from September 15 to 22, 2024 in the federal territory. According to the Ministry of Education of Russia, the winners were Olga Karaseva (Comprehensive School of the Center for Pedagogical Excellence, Moscow), Yegor Ledenev (Letovo School, Moscow), Tatyana Migal (Lyceum of Istra, Moscow Region), Dmitry Timofeev (Comprehensive School of the Center for Pedagogical Excellence, Moscow), Ekaterina Churkina (school number 179, Moscow) and Mark Yakovlev (school number 179, Moscow). Ekaterina Churkina not only won the gold medal, but also became the absolute winner of the Olympiad, receiving the honorary title "National Diamond" for the largest number of points scored.
Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Chernyshenko congratulated schoolchildren on their outstanding results. He noted that the success of Russian participants in the international arena is becoming a good tradition, stressing the importance of supporting talented students and creating conditions for their development.

The Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Sergei Kravtsov, presenting medals to the winners, expressed confidence that young astronomers will continue their path in science, developing their talents for the good of the country. He also thanked Elena Shmeleva, head of the Sirius Educational Center, for the high level of organization of the event.[1]
