2025: Russian President Vladimir Putin announces creation of BRICS digital settlement and investment platform

On June 18, 2025, the president Russia Vladimir Putin , during a meeting with the head New Development Bank BRICS Dilma Rousseff, announced the creation of a digital platform for settlements and investments of the association. It is assumed that it will be used for investments in emerging markets, primarily South and Asia Africa

I mean the expansion of the possibility of settlements in national currencies, and further joint efforts to create a digital platform for settlements and investments. At the last summit of BRICS leaders, we also spoke in detail about this. I know that you [Rousseff] also support all these undertakings, and I very much hope that we will work together in these areas, "Putin said.

It is about creating such an electronic payment platform with which to invest in emerging markets. Earlier, Putin said that with the creation of such a platform, "we are in no hurry." It is seen not as an answer to the events of "today" or countering restrictions in the field of finance, but as a project that will help organize work in promising and growing fast markets. Moreover, this also applies to those countries that are not members of the BRICS as of mid-2025. The head of state emphasized that the leadership of the new BRICS development bank liked the idea of ​ ​ creating such a platform.

Here different points of view exist, different approaches. In general, someone became more interested in these ideas, someone less. But we agreed to create a working group at the expert level, we will still be engaged at the government level, "the president explained.[1]
