2022: Market growth despite strong year-end decline

At the end of 2022, approximately 14.25 million personal computers - desktops and laptops - were sold in India. This is 0.6% more than in the previous year, when deliveries amounted to 14.17 million units. Analytical data on the local market on March 29, 2023 was published by Canalys.

It is reported that by the end of 2022, the demand for PCs in India has sharply decreased - the fall is estimated at 26.4%. Nevertheless, at the end of the whole year, the industry as a whole showed positive dynamics. Sales of desktops compared to 2021 rose by 37%, amounting to 3.2 million units. In the segment of portable computers, a decline of 7% was recorded - up to 11 million units.

The Canalys report says that in the consumer segment, demand decreased by the end of 2022. The commercial sector continued to struggle with problems in supply chains. Macroeconomic difficulties, including high inflation and recession, had a negative impact on the industry.

Overcoming digital inequality for educational development is a key state objective, and investment is expected to increase over the next few years. Meanwhile, corporate deals that have been suspended due to current economic conditions should resume and accelerate the market recovery, said Canalys analyst Ashweej Aithal.
