In Russia, launched the production of ceramic discs for tooth restoration according to the 3D model of the jaw

On June 26, 2024, it became known that the first certified production of ceramic zirconium discs for dentistry, allowing the manufacture of dental crowns according to a 3D model of the patient's jaw, was launched in Russia. The project was implemented by the Tomsk company Nova-Health, founded by employees of Tomsk State University (TSU). Read more here

Cut sales of dental tomographs by 10% to 799

In 2023, sales of dental tomographs in Russia decreased by 10% compared to the previous year - to 799 units. The main factor in the decline was the rush demand in 2022 against the background of the current geopolitical situation. This is stated in the materials of BusinesStat, published in early March 2024.

By dental tomography, the authors of the report mean an X-ray machine that produces a three-dimensional image of the jawbone. The statistics also include panoramic 3D X-ray installations.

According to estimates, in 2019, 836 dental tomographs were sold in Russia. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, sales of such devices decreased by 17.7% - to 688 units. Against the background of the spread of coronavirus, the activities of dentistry were limited or completely suspended. Dental practice was included in the list of industries most affected by the pandemic. Another serious factor in the decline in sales was logistical supply problems due to quarantine restrictions.

In 2021, the industry began to recover. Sales of dental tomographs in the Russian Federation amounted to 829 units, rising by 20.5% on an annualized basis. After the weakening of quarantine measures, the implementation of deferred demand for dentistry was observed. In 2022, an increase was recorded at 6.9% - up to 886 units. Expecting a sharp increase in prices and difficulties with logistics, institutions that do not have CT machines sought to purchase them faster. At the same time, clinics with previously installed tomographs updated outdated equipment. In 2023, the market showed negative dynamics due to excess purchases of tomographs during the previous year. BusinesStat estimates that 96% of all dental facilities with tomographs are private.[1]

Sales of dental seats and installations decreased by 1.1% to 5.87 thousand.

In 2023, 5.87 thousand dental seats and installations were sold on the Russian market. Compared to the previous year, when 5.93 thousand such products were sold, the drop was approximately 1.1%. This is stated in the study BusinesStat, the results of which are presented on March 6, 2024.

The published data take into account the sales of hydraulic and electromechanical dental seats, as well as installations of various types, including stationary (attached to the floor) and portable (the doctor's unit is connected to the chair). Devices that do not include a dental chair are not considered in the review. Among the leading enterprises in the industry are named TD Medmos, Center Coral, NPF Coral, TPF Clair, SKB SOIE, Stomel-K and NPF Dentoflex.

In 2019, 4.39 thousand dental seats and installations were purchased in Russia. In 2020, an increase of 3.9% was recorded - to 4.56 thousand, and in 2021 sales rose by another 13.4%, reaching 5.17 thousand. At the end of 2022, an increase of 14.8% was noted. Overall, sales increased by about 33.7% in 2019 -2023.

The BusinesStat report says that the stable level of consumption of dental seats and installations in Russia in 2019-2022 was supported by an increase in the primary incidence of tooth decay, the need to re-treat teeth due to the wear of previously installed fillings and dentures, as well as new aesthetic standards "smile." In addition, in 2022, there was an increased demand for equipment due to the emerging geopolitical situation. Due to fears of rising prices for products and problems in logistics, dentists sought to purchase chairs and installations at old prices. Against the background of this excessive consumption, the demand for dental equipment in 2023 decreased slightly.[2]

2021: Income of Russian exporters of components for mumblers has grown sharply

In 2021, the revenue of Russian exporters of bores, discs, tips and brushes for drill machines reached $2.6 million, which is 1.4 times more than a year earlier, when the figure was measured at $1.8 million. Such data in August 2022 are provided by BusinessStat analysts.

According to the study, in 2021, the export of bores, discs, tips and brushes for drill machines to the UK increased significantly - more than 4 times (from $40.2 thousand to $173.3 thousand), to Germany - 3 times (from $138.7 thousand to $413.6 thousand), to China - more than 2 times (from $47.4 thousand to $106.2 thousand).

The income of Russian exporters of components for mumblers has grown

According to experts, market operators and consumers have adapted to new epidemiological conditions: the activity of clients of dental clinics has increased and, accordingly, the demand for dental tools from medical institutions has increased.

Domestic enterprises were rapidly increasing the volume of production as part of import substitution. The state provided support to business under the program "Development of the pharmaceutical and medical industry for 2013-2020," as a result of which more than 160 projects on medical devices were funded. Due to the increase in the production of domestic products, enterprises managed to cover the domestic demand for Russian dental instruments and enter foreign markets. Consumer properties of Russian bores, discs, tips and brushes for drill machines comply with international standards. Due to affordability and quality, domestic products are competitive in the world market and are in wide demand, the researchers note.

It also follows from the report that in 2021, against the background of quarantine restrictions on the coronavirus COVID-19 imposed by most countries of the world, the growth in revenue from export operations for the shipment of bores, discs, tips and brushes for drill machines slowed down compared to a year earlier, but did not stop. At the end of 2020, products worth $1.8 million were sent from Russia, which exceeded the level of 2019 by 10%.[3]
