Endovascular surgery

Endovascular surgeon (X-ray surgery, interventional cardiology and interventional radiology) - surgical interventions carried out on blood vessels by percutaneous access under the control of radiation imaging methods using special tools.

Production of the world's first robotic surgeons for vascular surgery with a needle puncture of the skin has begun

In early December 2024, the American company Microbot Medical introduced the compact robot surgeon Liberty for vessel operations. It is assumed that it can be used in neurovascular and cardiovascular operations, as well as in procedures on peripheral vessels. Read more here.

The main and distinctive feature of endovascular surgery from other areas of medicine is that all interventions are performed without a scalpel, without large incisions, without general anesthesia. This makes it possible to perform interventions in those patients who are contraindicated by traditional surgical treatment.

The process of endovascular removal of blood clots (in the video below) is mesmerizing.

During the intervention, under local anesthesia, a low-traumatic 2-millimeter skin puncture in diameter in the area of the hand or groin is performed. Then, a thin instrument with a diameter of 2 mm is installed in the artery and then all surgical interventions are monitored using safe X-rays, all manipulations inside the vessel are displayed on the screen of special equipment - an angiograph.

After the intervention, there is no postoperative wound and sutures. Most diagnostic studies can be performed on an outpatient basis, saving time and finances. After surgery, patients can be discharged from the hospital after 1-3 days and return to their usual lifestyle.

Advantages of endovascular surgery over traditional:

1. Minimal trauma.

2. Minimal blood loss.

3. Absence of serious postoperative scars and scarring.

4. No anesthesia-related complications.

5. Rapid rehabilitation.

6. High efficiency of operations.

7. A better price.
