2024: Global Event Camera Market Exceeds $7 Billion for the Year

In 2024, sales of event cameras on a global scale reached $7.06 billion. More than a third of this amount fell on the North American region. Such data are presented in a Fortune Business Insights study, the results of which are presented on May 19, 2025.

Event cameras respond to changes in light intensity. Conventional cameras collect information at regular intervals during video shooting, polling all pixels at once and recording light intensity readings obtained during this interval. Event devices record pixel readings asynchronously: that is, each pixel of the camera is able to independently generate a signal at the moment when the change in the intensity of the light flux incident on it exceeds a certain threshold value. The main feature of event cameras is that they record only moving objects.

Event devices provide high speed operation. In addition, such devices have a large dynamic range, which allows shooting in very high or very low light conditions. The devices also have low power consumption: in operating mode, energy is spent only on transmitting information from those pixels on which a brightness change has occurred. Event cameras are used in various industries to detect and track fast-moving objects, detect movement in low light conditions, automatically position self-driving devices, analyze the flow of particles, liquids, etc.

One of the drivers of the analytics market is the development of industrial automation, robotics and self-driving vehicles. In particular, in the automotive field, event cameras capture detailed data on machine deformations during collision simulations, helping to improve the design. In robomobiles, such cameras are used as part of imaging systems that can work efficiently in various environmental conditions - for example, with a sharp change in lighting.

Technological advances are driving the industry, including the introduction of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Integration of event cameras with peripheral computing enables real-time visual processing of data.

By application, the market is segmented into automotive/mobile systems, industrial automation/robotics, consumer electronics, safety/surveillance platforms, healthcare/biomedical imaging, etc. In 2024, the first two directions were in the lead: in particular, the automotive sector accounted for 22.2% of revenue. Geographically, North America dominates with a share of 35%, or $2.47 billion: this is due to the high level of technological infrastructure development and significant research costs. Globally, the big players are:

Fortune Business Insights analysts believe that in the future, the CAGR in the market under consideration will be 14.1%. Thus, by 2032, sales of event cameras may increase to $20.29 billion.[1]
