Identification on an eye iris of the eye

Biometrics on an iris of the eye of eyes – the fast, contactless, safe and exclusively exact method of identification providing the solution of a wide range of tasks of customers of the different industries.

2018: Scanners of an iris of the eye of an eye taught to distinguish the dead person from live

In July, 2018 it became known that scanners of an iris of the eye of an eye "learned" to distinguish the dead person from live. In the future it will help to avoid hacker attacks on  systems which identify the user on  eyes.

Researchers from the Warsaw University of Technology developed the algorithm constructed on artificial intelligence capable to define whether an eye belongs to the living or dead person. And recognition accuracy, according to developers, is nearly 99%. The technology works based on a convolution neuronet  of VGG-16  used for the analysis of images.

The AI scanner learned to determine death by the picture of eyes

Development was tested in 830 photos in which irises of the eye of bright eyes and the died people are imprinted. In a case with the last the pictures made from 5 hours to 34 days after death undertook. Shooting was performed on the same camera to minimize technical errors in a research.

During training of an algorithm in scientists it was necessary to cut from  photos branches which allow to hold eyes of the dead person open  and also other elements  — everything, except the image of an iris of the eye.

The computer was mistaken only if the death occurred less than five hours ago as during this time external signs of death are shown not too obviously, especially for artificial intelligence. Besides, the stated 99 percent accuracy of recognition is not guaranteed if from the moment of approach of death there passed less than 16 hours.

The Warsaw University of Technology is going to finish the algorithm that it could improve biometric identification and reduce the probability of cracking of the systems working with eye irises of the eye. First of all, the technology should prevent attempts of unauthorized access using eyes of the dead.[1]

2017: The Russian banks will identify clients on a retina

Biometric authentication purchases the increasing popularity at the Russian banks. According to in August, 2017 the Izvestia edition, in the closest several years of the financial organization will already identify the identity of the clients on a retina.

Closest to the purpose VTB Group – the system of scanning of a retina will be will be implemented from next year. Clients will be able to confirm the personality by scanning of a retina both in bank departments, and at transactions on some mobile devices (negotiations with smartphone manufacturers are already conducted now), self-service terminals and in ATMs. As consider in VTB, such method of authentication can be used at implementation of any transactions, only the device allowing to scan a retina is necessary.

The B&N Bank is going to enter authentication on a retina in the next 2-3 years. The financial organization considers scanning of a retina as an additional measure of protection of access to a safe deposit box and transfers of large sums of money.

The possibility of system implementation of authentication on a retina also studies Tinkoff-bank. According to specialists, this system is much more reliable and exact in comparison with scanning of fingerprints or the person. However they note complexity of implementation of the similar project. Collecting of electronic samples and carrying out the scanning requires the expensive equipment and direct contact with clients.

2016: South Korea - KEB Hana Bank and Woori Bank

In the summer of 2016 two largest banks of South Korea - KEB Hana Bank and Woori Bank introduce the system of identification of users of mobile banking on a retina. The press services of financial institutions reported about it.

"The system of identification will earn later this month when in the country sales of the Galaxy Note 7 phone of Samsung company which is equipped with the retina scanner", said in press release begin. It is expected that start of a new system will allow to raise considerably the security level of users, having protected them from the swindlers acting in the Internet.
"The sensing technology of a retina is extremely advanced and difficult that it does practically any attempts of cracking useless", - it is emphasized in the document. In it it is also noted that data on a retina of the user will be stored on phone, but not on servers of the companies. It will allow to provide at the same time additional protection of the user and to make use of mobile banking simpler.

The third largest South Korean bank, Shinhan Bank also considers the possibility of start of a similar system.

Google patents the system of scanning of an iris of the eye in contact lenses

In the summer of 2015 it became known that the Google company works on contact lenses and different options of their use long ago. The patent request tells about one more of these options: scanning of an iris of the eye of an eye in the biometric purposes[2].

Earlier Google had ideas of creation of lenses with the built-in imperceptible cameras and lenses with a possibility of the analysis of level of sugar in blood through plaintive liquid. The new method of biometric scanning should become more difficult for cracking, than sensors of fingerprints. The application was submitted on June 2, 2015 and describes lenses and chains with light sensors over an iris of the eye. They scan a cover and create its print which is compared to the sample which is contained in the device. At coincidence the user can log in the account or unblock the device. Work of lenses will require the wireless power source. As the purpose is increase in the user security, it is possible to refuse providing personal information and the data collected by a system will be anonymous.

Contact lenses can have also other options of application. For example, input of small doses of drugs (like insulin) through short periods instead of more rare injections with heavy doses. Other opportunity - night vision for people with problems with sight. Or, the substance which is contained in plaintive liquid lakriglobin promotes detection of different types of cancer - a breast, lungs, a brain so lenses can help with early detection of a disease or monitoring of remission.

Fujitsu developed smartphone user authentication

Fujitsu developed the technology of user authentication of the Prototype Fujitsu smartphone unlocks with the blink of an eye smartphone[3]allowing to make it on an eye iris of the eye at the expense of literally one look at the beginning of 2015: authentication takes less than a second[4].

It is simpler, than to type the code, or to put a finger (which can be dirty or simply physically it is inconvenient to attach it). Authentication on an iris (color of area around a pupil will actually be recognized) works in technology of Fujitsu even if the user wears transparent glasses or contact lenses.

For work of technology the additional authentication hardware which weighs less than one gram is a part of the smartphone. In particular, contains in it miniature the infrared sensor and the camera.

Originally the user registers the iris by a look in two special circles on the screen. Data are stored only on the smartphone. Later for authentication there is no need to close bring the smartphone to the person, as in many other authentication systems on an iris. So, in the Daily Mail edition it is mentioned that a new system works at distance up to 22 cm against the traditional technologies of identification working at distance about 10 cm.

The special algorithm developed by the Californian company Delta ID is a part of a product of Fujitsu. Fujitsu works on the corporate version of the new solution.

2014: Google and contact lenses

In 2014 Google announced cooperation with the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis which promises to begin production of lenses by 2019. Google has a number of competitors in the field of contact lenses of the future. The Swiss company Sensimed wants to measure inflammation of eyes at patients with glaucoma; the American Innovega can turn lenses into displays with high resolution without harm for sight; the university of Michigan works on infrared lenses for night vision.
