M-5 Ural (highway)

History

2024: Opening of two sections of the route, which have been under work for 15 years

In mid-October 2024, Rosavtodor completed construction and opened two new sections for traffic on the Ural M-5 highway in the Moscow region. Work on them lasted about 15 years, and the total costs exceeded 42 billion rubles.

According to reports, a Moscow Region Government section bypassing Oktyabrsky and Ostrovtsov, as well as the Ulyanino-Nepetsino section, have been launched. The length of the bypass is 11.1 km: it has eight high-speed lanes, convenient interchanges at the intersection with the Ostrovetsky highway in the Ramensky district and the access road to Zhukovsky. Eight overpasses and bridges were built, including a new crossing over the Moscow River. All freight flows and transit transport from the villages of Oktyabrsky and Ostrovtsy will go to the new road, which will significantly reduce the load on the Novoryazanskoye highway. It is noted that residents of a number of urban districts will be able to get to Moscow 1.5 hours faster. The bypass will also allow you to freely get to the Zhukovsky International Airport. A wide road and the absence of traffic lights along the entire route from Moscow will allow you to get from the Moscow Ring Road to the air harbor in 25 minutes.

In turn, the Ulyanino-Nepecino section has a length of about 21 km. Four lanes are built here, and traffic flows are separated by an axial barrier fence. The departure highway bypasses the village of Starnikovo, the villages of Ulyanino and Nikitskoye in Ramenskoye, as well as the village of Nepetsino in the Kolomna district. Drivers will be able to freely leave Voskresensk for the Ural M-5, get from Lukhovits to Moscow faster.

The construction of the bypass of Oktyabrsky and Ostrovtsov cost 27 billion rubles, the Ulyanino-Nepetsino section - 15.4 billion. Travel on new roads is free, the permitted speed is 90 km/h.^[1]
