2023:120 thousand people entered the Russian medical college for the year

In 2023, more than 120 thousand applicants were enrolled in medical colleges in the country, which was a record figure in recent years. This is evidenced by the data of the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko, published in early June 2024.

According to him, the high competition in secondary medical educational institutions did not become an obstacle for young people who want to connect their lives with the noble profession of a medical worker. This fact, according to the head of the Ministry of Health, testifies to the growing prestige and importance of this specialty in the eyes of society. In addition, the minister said that in 2023, over 70 thousand applicants became students of higher medical educational institutions in Russia.

According to the Moscow Department of Health, in 2024, more than 3.5 thousand applicants are expected to be enrolled in medical colleges in the capital. At the same time, 2.2 thousand places will be provided for training on a contractual basis with legal entities or individuals, and 1341 places will be ㅡ at the expense of the city budget on a full-time basis.

The Department of Health noted that the priority specialties in Moscow medical colleges in the 2024-2025 academic year will be "Nursing" (2.2 thousand places), "Medical business" (525 places), "Laboratory diagnostics" (350 places), "Obstetrics" (300 places) and "Orthopedic dentistry" (225 places). For comparison, in 2023, 3716 people were admitted to all forms of training in medical colleges in Moscow.

According to experts of the Department, the positive dynamics of growth in the number of students of medical colleges and universities is an important step towards overcoming the personnel deficit in the Russian health care system. However, to consolidate this trend and attract young professionals to the industry, comprehensive measures are needed to improve the status of the medical profession, create favorable working conditions and provide opportunities for continuous professional improvement.[1]
