2021: Sales of medical mattresses in Russia increased by 26%, to 419 thousand units

According to the results of 2020, the volume of the Russian medical mattress market reached 419 thousand units, an increase of 26.3% compared to 2019. This is evidenced by the data of the BusinesStat, which were published in August 2021.

According to experts, due to the coronavirus pandemic COVID-19 , the number of hospital beds in hospitals of the Russian Federation in 2020 increased by 7.4%, to 1.57 million. The expansion of the bed fund has led to a rapid increase in sales of medical mattresses. During 2020, old hospital beds were re-equipped and new specialized beds were deployed to treat patients with coronavirus.

In 2016-2019. sales of medical mattresses in Russia increased by 10.2%: from 300.9 to 331.7 thousand units. Growth was supported mainly by commercial hospitals and retail customers who purchased mattresses for home use. The main consumers - state medical institutions - were forced to reduce costs and a bed fund as part of the optimization. However, some of the mattresses in operation were subject to replacement due to their intensive use in hospitals, which also contributed to sales growth.

The mattress market remains one of the most localized niches in Russia. First of all, this situation is associated with the speed of delivery and volume of products. The average mattress delivery speed was 36 hours in Moscow. Such mobility can only be achieved if there is local production.

The bulk of Russian mattress production is concentrated in the Central Federal District, Siberian Federal District and Volga Federal District. The Central Federal District remains the leader in terms of production volumes.

It is expected that in 2021, sales of medical mattresses in Russia will approach the level of 2019 and amount to 349.21 thousand units.^[1]
