The world's largest nuclear power plant "Kashivazaki Kariva" received approval to restart two reactors
In November 2025, the world's largest nuclear power plant, Kashiwazaki Kariva, in Japan received approval to restart two reactors, an important step for the country in reducing its dependence on gas and coal.
The restart will also reduce LNG demand by about 130,000 tonnes per month.

World's largest experimental fusion reactor launched in Japan
On December 1, 2023, the world's largest experimental thermonuclear reactor, the JT-60SA complex, was launched in Japan. The installation is the size of a six-story building located in Naka (Ibaraki Prefecture) north of Tokyo. Read more here.

Japan in December 2022 adopted a plan to extend the life of nuclear reactors, replace old ones and build new ones. After the Fukushima disaster, the country planned to abandon the use of nuclear power, but has now changed this decision amid global interruptions in energy supplies.
