2023: Global PBX office sales up 15% to $11 billion for the year
In 2023, the global office PBX market reached approximately $11 billion. For comparison, a year earlier, sales of such systems were estimated at $9.6 billion. Thus, growth was recorded at 15%. Industry trends are considered in the material Market Research Future, published at the end of December 2024.
One of the main drivers of the market in question, analysts name technological advances, including the integration of unified communications and artificial intelligence functions. In an effort to optimize operational efficiency and simplify communications, organizations are increasingly adopting specialized AI tools. Such tools facilitate call routing, as well as provide predictive analytics capabilities. In addition, virtual assistants can be built into the enterprise infrastructure. These solutions improve the overall user experience by automating, providing personalized service, and more. For example, AI-based chatbots can support customers, answer questions and perform other routine operations. As a result, human resources are released to solve more complex problems. At the same time, the overall efficiency of the company increases and costs are reduced.
Organizations around the world are increasingly moving from traditional on-premises PBXs to cloud-based alternatives because of their many benefits, such as flexibility, scalability and low upfront costs, the study said. Cloud systems support voice calls and other services over the Internet, thereby eliminating the need for local equipment. The growing need for digitalization and advanced telecommunications solutions is increasing the demand for cloud systems. With this model, enterprises can quickly optimize the capacity of their communications infrastructure in response to changing business requirements.
The authors of the report highlight several main industry verticals: BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance), health and life sciences, telecommunications and IT, public and public sectors, retail and others. The largest contribution to the total revenue is made by the telecommunications segment - approximately $4.5 billion at the end of 2023. Leading players in the global market include:
- 3CX;
- CenturyLink;
- Panasonic;
- NEC;
- Cisco Systems;
- Digium;
- Mitel Networks Corporation;
- Avaya;
- Samsung Electronics.
Geographically, North America leads with costs of $4.9 billion at the end of 2023. The dominance of the region is explained by several factors, including the widespread introduction of advanced communication technologies and significant investment in the IT sector. In second place is Europe, where there is a high level of development of telecom infrastructure. At the same time, the Asia-Pacific region, driven by rapid urbanization and various digital transformation initiatives, is showing the highest growth rates.
The report said businesses around the world continue to prioritize advanced technologies that improve communication efficiency and facilitate better decision-making. Thanks to this, the industry is expected to maintain a steady positive trend: in the future, the CAGR will be 15%. As a result, by 2032, costs in the global PBX market may increase to $33.7 billion.[1]
2012
According to Infonetics Research, the total volume of the global market for PBXs and keyboard telephone systems in 2012 amounted to $8.1 billion, which is 4% lower than in 2011.
According to analysts, the decline in PBX sales in the EMEA region turned out to be even greater - as much as 10%. At the same time, the growth indicators of the markets of North America and the Asia-Pacific region turned out to be even very small, but positive: the growth of the first was 2%, the second - 1%.
Infonetics states that after two years of moderate growth in 2012, PBX sales clearly slowed down. Deliveries grew, but the price pressure of competitors remained in the market, which reduced the volume of the market in money. An additional negative factor was the weakening of the European economy. However, analysts believe that in 2013, the PBX market will again experience moderate growth.
At the same time, the unified communications (UC) segment, on the contrary, grew mainly due to the demand for the Skype for Business platform (formerly Microsoft Lync). Analysts predict that in 2013 unified communications will occupy an even stronger position in the corporate market in the segments of large and medium-sized businesses.
According to analysts, in 2012, the annual growth of the UC segment was 8%. Infonetics expects that in 2013 the most acute competition will be in this segment, and the main "actors" will be Cisco Systems and Microsoft.
However, the most significant growth in 2012 (compared to 2011) was not observed in UC, but in the IP-PBX segment - 11%.
Cisco Systems remains the market leader in PBXs and keyboard telephone systems for the sixth quarter in a row.
In second place according to the results of 2012, Avaya (Avaya CIS), in third place - Siemens. But at the same time, only three vendors from dozens of manufacturers operating in the corporate telephony market boast revenue growth in 2012 - these are Cisco, Mitel and ShoreTel[2].
