What holiday in the different countries

In 2016 under the law the American companies are not obliged to grant a paid leave. While:

  • in Great Britain workers have the right to 28 paid vacation days (including national holidays),
  • in Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Luxembourg, Sweden — for 25 days a year,
  • in Brazil — for 30 days plus 11 national holidays.

Policy of an unlimited holiday

2004: Netflix

Since 2004 the staff of Netflix company takes so many days off how many will wish. They independently solve when to come to work when to take time off, what is the time will occupy accomplishment of tasks. And this policy did not damage the company at all. On the contrary, from the moment of its introduction by 2016 the market value of Netflix grew to 51 billion dollars. For more details see Netflix.

1981: Semco

The Brazilian company Semco since 1981 offers the employees an unlimited holiday. The son of the founder of the company Ricardo Semler in 21 years earned serious problems with health and understood that the existing working schedule slowly kills him. And if it kills him, so kills also employees. Ricardo made the radical decision, at once having finished restriction of holidays, output and hospital.

Contrary to concern on productivity slowdown, Semler found out that employees became more productive and devoted to the company, they were happy, and the company prospered. When Semler in 1981 entered policy of unlimited holidays, the cost of Semco company was 4 million dollars, in 2016 it reached 1 billion dollars.

Who works on a holiday most

In 2011 the research center of the recruiting Superjob portal found out what representatives of professions more often than others should be distracted from rest by the solution of working questions.

As it became clear, is more often than the others heads of the enterprises and organizations (42%) are faced the need to work during the holiday. Suppliers (35%) and system administrators (33%) should sacrifice rest for the sake of work quite often.

Among those who sometimes come off rest for the sake of the solution of working problems PR-managers, personnel officers and system administrators are in the lead (on 45%). Practically doctors, programmers, accountants and teachers (on 44%), lawyers, logisticians, economists, engineers and account managers do not lag behind them (on 43%). "I cannot refuse to people though it also strongly disturbs"; "Sometimes I am called by managers who cannot solve elementary problems", - respondents noted.

Organize work so that in the solution of working questions during the holiday there was no need, it is better than the others psychologists (25%) are able. The second and third places are taken by teachers and journalists (22% and 21% respectively). According to representatives of these professions, they are not afraid to delegate the powers.

"The holiday is sacred", - such position is more often than others psychologists (12%) take, besides, they are followed by secretaries and designers (on 10%). Among those who could not give the answer to the question posed because of a long absence of a holiday economists, designers and secretaries (on 10%), analysts, programmers and editors (on 9%), sales managers and account executives prevail (on 8%).

Some of them complain of the employers who are not allowing them otgulyat a legal holiday, others spend precious weeks of rest for delivery of sessions and protection of theses. Survey was conducted from October, 2010 to March, 2011 in all regions of Russia. About 1 thousand respondents from each profession took part in it.
