2020: Russia enters the top 5 largest pork producers

At the end of 2020, Russia was ahead of Brazil and entered the top five countries in pork production. This is evidenced by the data of the Center for Economic Forecasting (CEP) of Gazprombank.

Analysts estimated the annual volume of Russian pork production at 4.276 million tons of slaughter weight. According to the calculations of the Brazilian Association of Animal Proteins (ABPA), the release of this meat in the country in 2020 amounted to 4.251 million tons.

Russia entered the top 5 largest pork producers, ahead of Brazil

China in 2020 remained the world's largest pork producer with a result of 32 million tons. Next are the United States, Germany and Poland. The indicators of these states are not given in the CEP.

According to experts, in 2020, pork imports to Russia turned out to be almost zero, but exports were actively growing - then almost 200 thousand tons of meat were exported from the Russian Federation. At the same time, Brazilians exported 1 million tons of pork to the world market, which was a record for the industry - growth amounted to 25% by 2019.

The largest pork producers in Russia

Until 2017, Russia actively purchased Brazilian pork - about 300 thousand tons annually. At the same time, after the discovery of African swine fever in Europe and the introduction of a food embargo, Brazil was a key supplier of this type of meat.

At the end of January 2021, the National Union of Pig Farmers published a rating of the largest pork producers in the Russian Federation at the end of 2020. Miratorg remained in first place with a market share of 10.7%. The second position was taken by the Velikoluksky Pig Breeding Complex, the third by RusAgro, and the fourth by the Cherkizovo group. At the same time, the shares of these manufacturers turned out to be almost equal (about 6.3%).[1]
