2024: The construction of a bridge to Sakhalin was estimated at 1.2 trillion rubles

The concessionaire Multifunctional Cargo District (MGR), together with Gazprombank, plans to invest over ₽1,2 trillion in the creation of the Sakhalin transport corridor connecting the island with the mainland of Russia. This became known on October 7, 2024.

According to "KP," project financing will be carried out according to the concession model without attracting budget funds. The project provides for the construction of a railway line with a length of about 600 km from the Selikhin station in the Khabarovsk Territory to the Nysh station on Sakhalin, including a 20-kilometer bridge across the strait.

Bridge to Sakhalin will be built for 1.2 trillion rubles

Olga Puchkova, General Director of the Blue Sea investment company, said that since 2021, the port of Multifunctional Cargo District has been under construction on the eastern shore of Sakhalin as part of a federal concession. At the same time, the possibility of developing the port for the Sakhalin international transport corridor was initially taken into account.

Vice President of Gazprombank Valentin Murashov noted the relevance of the project and its significant impact on the growth of the Russian economy. According to him, the final cost of the construction of the international transport corridor will become known after the completion of engineering surveys and design, which will take 2-3 years and will require investments in the amount of ₽25 billion.

Governor of Sakhalin Oblast Valery Limarenko expressed confidence in the successful implementation of the project, stressing that a political decision on the construction of a bridge between the mainland and the island has already been made.

In October 2024, you can only get to Sakhalin by air or sea. The implementation of the project will create a land connection between the island and the mainland of Russia, which will significantly improve the transport accessibility of the region and will contribute to its economic development.[1]
