According to statistics for 2019, snoring affects about 24% of women and 40% of men.
Reasons for snoring
Snoring occurs due to the fact that the flow of inhaled air provokes vibration of the soft tissues of the upper respiratory tract. In a dream, the muscles of our palate are relaxed, and when the flow of air passes through them, they begin to vibrate, taking out known rolls. By the way, most people snore in their dreams on inhalation.
Most often, snoring occurs in mature people. This is due to the fact that over the years, the muscles of the upper respiratory tract begin to lose their elasticity, gradually leading to the fact that these paths are partially blocked during sleep.
It is customary to distinguish three main causes of snoring - curvature of the nasal septum, elongated palatal tongue and enlarged tonsils.
Also, obesity and snoring often go hand in hand - with obesity, the content of adipose tissue in the area of the back wall of the pharynx is increased, which leads to additional narrowing of the respiratory tract.
An important fact: taking alcohol, drugs, smoking - these are additional factors that cause snoring. Nicotine tends to irritate and inflame the laryngeal mucosa, causing swelling that narrows the walls of the pharynx and trachea. Alcohol, on the other hand, tends to relax all the muscles of the body, including the respiratory tract, so the "taken on the chest" will snore louder and longer than a sober person.

2021: eXciteOSA announcement - snoring treatment systems
In early February 2021, Signifier Medical Technologies released a language simulator that treats snoring and sleep respiratory arrest problems by electrostimulating muscles. The eXciteOSA device, formerly SnooZeal, is equipped with a four-electrode mouthpiece. The electrodes provide electrical muscle stimulation similar to percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation but directed at the area around the tongue. Fortified tongue muscles will eventually impede airway closure, allowing air to freely enter and exit the lungs. Read more here.
