2024: Release of the watch version with snoring control

At the end of May 2024, Samsung announced the release of the Galaxy Watch 5 smartwatch with the proprietary One UI 6 Watch user interface. The peculiarity of gadgets is the presence of functions based on artificial intelligence Galaxy AI, including snoring control.

Galaxy AI technology combined with the Samsung Health app will help users better understand their health. Improved algorithms and improved wellness tracking tools will provide more holistic, personalized and practical data. In particular, the Sleep Insights system has new sleep indicators that offer a more detailed and accurate analysis of the quality of night rest. Values such as snoring time, blood oxygen levels and sleep cycles, movements during sleep, sleep delay, heart rate and breathing rate during sleep are recorded.

Additional fitness features have been implemented that provide intelligent and easy ways to measure physical capabilities for more personalized activities. For example, using the new Workout Routine program, you can combine different exercises for an individual workout and smoothly move from one exercise to the next without stopping. The Race feature compares current and past results while running or cycling, thereby keeping you motivated and allowing you to track progress.

The Wellness Tips tool will help achieve personal health goals. At the same time, Energy Score functions will allow you to control your daily condition thanks to combined analysis of personal indicators, including average sleep time, constancy of sleep/wake time, activity on the previous day, heart rate during sleep, heart rate variability, etc.^[1]

2022: Smartwatch announcement

On August 10, 2022, Samsung Electronics announced the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro (45 mm) smartwatches. The new devices are presented in three versions:

• Galaxy Watch5 (40 mm) - 1.19-inch display, 396×396 pixel resolution;
• Galaxy Watch5 (44 mm) - 1.36-inch display, 450×450 pixel resolution;
• Galaxy Watch5 Pro (45mm) - 1.36-inch display, 450×450 pixel resolution.

In addition to the different screen diagonals, the versions differ from each other in battery capacity: 284 mAh (40 mm) and 410 mAh (44 mm). Autonomy - up to 50 hours. The charging speed has also been improved - you can replenish the battery up to 45% in 30 minutes. For comparison, the Galaxy Watch 4 takes about the same amount of time to charge up to 30%.

All three models use sapphire glass. At the same time, in conventional Watch5, the body is made of reinforced aluminum, and in the Pro version - of titanium.

The smartwatch received an improved BioActive 3-in-1 sensor, which allows you to measure your heart rate, conduct ECGs and analyze the owner's body composition with an accuracy of 98%. In addition, wearable gadgets are capable of measuring blood pressure and body temperature.

Galaxy Watch5 offers a comprehensive program not only for organizing workouts, but also means of controlling rest and recovery during the post-training period, based on the heart rate indicator. The system even provides personalized water consumption recommendations based on sweating data. Sleep Coaching offers a month-long sleep normalization program, tracking key metrics including blood oxygen levels and snoring.

The watch runs on operating system Wear OS 3.5, supplemented by a proprietary One UI Watch 4.5 interface. The Pro model additionally supports the ability to download GPX routes for walking and cycling with step-by-step navigation. In addition, the new items support the tracking function, which allows you to return to the point of origin of the route.

The price of the Galaxy Watch 5 starts at $280 (about 17 thousand rubles at the exchange rate as of August 10, 2022), and the Pro model starts at $450 (about 27 thousand rubles). The smartwatch will go on sale on August 26, 2022.^[2]
