2021: Announcement of the OS for smart watches

At the end of June 2021, Samsung introduced the One UI Watch operating system for smart watches. The new product was created in collaboration with Google and, according to developers, incorporated the better capabilities of the Wear OS and Tizen platforms.

According to Samsung, One UI Watch will provide increased performance, more seamless interaction between wearable devices and mobile gadgets on Android, as well as access to many applications.

According to the press release, One UI Watch brings a new experience of interacting with the Galaxy Watch: as soon as compatible applications are installed on the smartphone, they will be downloaded to the wearable device. For example, if the Clock service on a mobile gadget indicates time in certain cities, the same data will be shown on the Galaxy Watch, and after blocking calls and messages on the wearable device, the user will turn them off on the smartphone.

On the platform, new features and integration capabilities will become available with popular third-party applications that can be installed on the Galaxy Watch from the Google Play store:

• for athletes and fitness enthusiasts - Adidas Running, GOLFBUDDY Smart Caddy, Strava and swim.com;
• those who want to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle - Calm or Sleep Cycle;
• melomans and those who want to expand their musical horizons - Spotify and YouTube Music;
• travelers - Google Maps.

The first device supporting One UI Watch will be the next Galaxy Watch model. According to available information, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 are equipped with a 5-nm single-chip system, 2D glass, narrower frames around the display and a frame made of titanium alloy. The gadget will be released in two versions measuring 42 and 46 mm. It is expected that the watch will be available in the following colors: black, silver, dark green and rose gold.^[1]
