TAdviser.com - Russia's first edition, based on artificial intelligence, has been translated into neural network technologies
TAdviser.com - English version of the Russian edition of TAdviser.ru, is formed automatically using PROMT machine translation solutions. This is the first project of its kind in Russia and, probably, in the world.
2021: Transition of the publication to neural network translation technologies
In January 2019, media No. 1 in Russia on the topic of the digital economy TAdviser and one of the world's largest developers of machine translation systems PROMT launched TAdviser.com - the English version of TAdviser.ru, which is automatically generated using machine translation. During the partnership TAdviser translated over 200 million words using PROMT machine translation. More than 1000 translation requests are automatically sent from the Russian-language portal of TAdviser.ru every month. After translation, the content is also automatically placed on the English version of the portal.
For the first two years, the TAdviser.com was based on RBMT technology (Rule-based Machine Translation - machine translation based on rules) - it provided translation sufficient for understanding, but did not allow getting rid of the "machine accent" in texts. Since the beginning of 2021, NMT technology (PROMT Neural Machine Translation) has been launched on the platform of the English version of TAdviser, which provides translation quality comparable to that of a person.
Neural network technologies provide smooth machine translation - in many cases it is almost no different from the translation that a professional translator will perform. The PROMT machine translation system was specially trained for the Tadviser project on news and IT-related texts. This will make the news even more accessible to the English-speaking audience, "the director Yulia Epiphantseva of business development emphasizes PROMT - News content has its own specifics for machine translation. On the one hand, they are not so complex for machine translation, since unlike highly specialized texts, for example, technical documentation, they do not contain complex terminology or specific syntax. On the other hand, such texts are very diverse in topics, events, so a wide variety of vocabulary can meet in them. |
Information technology in Russia is rapidly developing. Domestic companies enter foreign markets. The task TAdviser.com to represent the Russian IT industry and business as a whole abroad, to give objective information about the leadership positions of our country in the development of the digital economy, "says Mikhail Santo, managing partner of TAdviser. - We are confident that the transition to the new technology of automatic translation of texts will further accelerate the growth of the audience of our English version. |
2019: Launch of the publication on RBMT translation technology
On January 31, 2019, TAdviser, mass media No. 1 in Russia on the topic of corporate informatization and PROMT, one of the world leaders in the development of linguistic IT solutions, announced the launch of Russia's first online publication based on artificial intelligence technologies. The work of the TAdviser.com in was based on RBMT technology (Rule-based Machine Translation - machine translation based on rules).
By the time of launch, the system had translated more than 206 thousand articles from the TAdviser knowledge base from Russian to English. Including more than 40 thousand files of companies, 17 thousand descriptions of IT solutions and 47 thousand descriptions of projects, as well as a large number of articles on technology markets and the economy of Russia and other countries, hundreds of interviews with experts from the information technology industry. The time spent by programmers to develop the TAdviser.com platform exceeded 1,200 man-hours.
The task of the TAdviser.com is to inform foreign readers about the Russian IT industry, the digital transformation of the domestic economy and public administration, as well as about the events of the world technological agenda, which are important from the point of view of the publication. The portal provides a tool for Russian companies that seek to become more visible in the world market.
243 million people speak Russian on the planet. According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), 3.9 billion people or 51.2% of the world's population go online. Of these, at least half make search queries in Latin.
"In Russia, a strong information technology industry and we have long wanted to talk about it in English, but translating our large information stream by people would be very expensive," said Alexander Bagretsov, director of promotion at TAdviser. "Technology came to our aid. This is a typical example of the grandiose opportunities the digital economy offers. We are grateful to the colleagues from PROMT who responded to our offer of cooperation and came up with interest to solve this unique problem. " |
The automatic translation technologies developed by PROMT will solve an important problem for Russian companies - to ensure a presence in the world market, in particular in the global information environment. The task of translating large dynamically changing content, such as industry news, into even one foreign language cannot be carried out with the help of professional translators, so AI technologies in the field of linguistics have grandiose tasks.
"The use of automatic translation in the work of the media is an example of the effective use of artificial intelligence technologies in business," said Yulia Epifantseva, PROMT Business Development Director. - In order to solve the tasks set by TAdviser, we created a completely new solution, in the development of which we focused on the features of the translated content and the quality of translation. The new solution is adapted to translate the specific content of the TAdviser portal - information about Russian IT companies and products, interviews with professional representatives of the industry and other technological information. " |
The implementation of the project was facilitated by the formalized structure of TAdviser materials, each of which is tied to one of the special categories. This helped to make separate translation settings for each of the groups of articles. TAdviser is not only a media about technology, but also a technological media.
