2021: Ranking the most visited sites
The most visited site in 2021 was TikTok. This is evidenced by the data of Cloudflare, published on December 22, 2021.
According to Cloudflare analysts, TikTok first came out on top on February 17, 2021, and since August 10 has consistently overtaken Google in the number of visits on most days. In 2021, the number of TikTok users exceeded 1 billion people.
According to The Wall Street Journal, TikTok has gained popularity due to a special recommendation algorithm that provides users with those video clips that they may like. When calculating recommendations for the user, the social network relies on information about how exactly the user spends time on the social network: on which fragments of the video is delayed and which videos are revised.
The three most visited Internet domains (including sites and applications) by the end of 2021 included google.com and facebook.com. The top 10 is presented below:
Instagram did not make the top ten this year, although a year ago it ranked ninth in the ranking. Nevertheless, the platform was on the fifth line among the most popular social networks. TikTok also became the leader in this category.
The leaders in website traffic among online readers were American Amazon, Ebay and Walmart, as well as Chinese Taobao (a platform owned by Alibaba) and JD.com. The most popular messengers were WhatsApp, Telegram, WeChat and Signal.
Cloudflare calculates its global rating and domain rating at the level of individual countries using aggregated data on global Internet traffic models. The ranking takes into account not only the main domain, for example tiktok.com, but also all related domains, such as tiktokcdn.com and tiktokv.com. Pornographic resources were not taken into account when compiling the rating.[2]
