Trichopigmentation (micropigmentation)

Micropigmentation, also known as permanent makeup, is a cosmetic procedure in which special pigments are injected into the upper layers of the skin using special needles or machines. The procedure can be used to simulate makeup, such as eyeliner or eyebrow shade. In addition, micropigmentation is used to mask the absence of hair on the head: if the patient has no hair or very little, the dots look like the head is covered with manifesting hair follicles. Micropigmentation is also used to mask scars and other skin defects.

History

2024: Global Hair Micropigmentation Market Growth to $103.3 Million

At the end of 2024, the costs of the global hair micropigmentation market amounted to $103.3 million. More than 70% of global spending was in the European region. Such data are provided in a Fortune Business Insights study, the results of which were published on June 13, 2025.

One of the drivers of the market, the authors of the study call technological advances. New devices are emerging, including digital micropigmentation machines equipped with accurate control systems and advanced needles: such solutions have increased accuracy and provide a higher level of safety for patients. Thanks to these devices, pain is reduced, the overall quality of the procedure is improved and pigment preservation is improved.

Global Hair Micropigmentation Market Reaches $103.3 Million for the Year

Accelerating the pace of life and increasing the urban population have a stimulating effect on the industry. Micropigmentation can be used to create permanent makeup, which allows you to use traditional cosmetics less often, and therefore save time that may not be enough in a busy schedule. Micropigmentation is increasingly being used as a postoperative procedure for conditions such as areola reconstruction, scar masking, and vitiligo repigmentation.

At the same time, restraining factors stand out. There is a risk of infection at the site of administration of the formulation. In addition, allergic reactions are not excluded. Sales of counterfeit pigments and machines, particularly in high-crime regions, pose a threat to consumer safety and undermine brand confidence. The comparatively high cost of micropigmentation products limits their penetration in developing countries.

The market is segmented into devices, accessories and pigments. In 2024, the third of the listed product groups provided the largest share of revenue. At the same time, the highest sales growth rates are recorded in the field of accessories. According to the type of the analytical procedure, micropigmentation of eyebrows, lips, eyelashes, etc., is distinguished. The most popular are procedures of the first type. At the place of provision of services, the market is divided into specialized clinics, spas and centers of cosmetic surgery, beauty salons, etc. In 2024, the first-class institutions contributed the most. From a geographical point of view, Europe leads, which accounted for 71.34% of total revenue, or approximately $73.7 million. Globally, the list of significant players includes:

  • PMU Line;
  • Bella Co.;
  • Nouveau Contour;
  • Quantum;
  • Microbeau International;
  • Swiss Color;
  • Sviato Shop;
  • Perma Blend;
  • Tina Davies;
  • PhiAcademy GmbH;
  • Purebeau;
  • Goochie.

In 2025, the micropigmentation market size is expected to reach $110.8 million. Fortune Business Insights analysts believe that in the future, the CAGR will be 8.3%. Thus, by 2032, costs may increase to $193 million.[1]
