2023
Growth in sales of cosmetic injections by 8.2% to 18.8 billion rubles
In 2023, the volume of the Russian market for drugs for injectable cosmetology reached 18.8 billion rubles. The growth in relation to 2022 was 8.2%. The corresponding data are reflected in the study of the GuideMarket company, the results of which were published on June 13, 2024.
The review addresses agents such as contour fillers, injectable biorevitalizers, mesopreparations, and botulinum toxins. At the same time, an analysis of only the legal segment of the market was carried out. It is noted that injectable cosmetology allows you to improve the general condition of the skin, increase its tone and elasticity. It provides the opportunity to correct age changes, change the volume of the lips, restore the oval and contours of the face, etc.
According to estimates, in 2019, sales of cosmetic injections amounted to approximately 14.7 billion rubles. In 2020, there was a sharp decline: the market volume decreased by 29.8% - to 10.3 billion rubles. Against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic and self-isolation, people refused to visit cosmetology clinics and offices, fearing infection. Due to the spread of the coronavirus, the solvency of the population has also decreased.
In 2021, the market began to recover: its volume reached 14.2 billion rubles, and the increase was 37.2%. This growth was due to both positive import dynamics and an increase in Russian production. In 2022, an increase of 22.7% was recorded with a final result of 17.4 billion rubles. It is said that in general, there are no difficulties with the supply of consumables and drugs against the background of a deteriorating geopolitical situation. The market has been rebuilt - new supply chains have been formed. But rising prices for services and drugs are having a negative impact on the industry.[1]
Market growth by 8.6% to 269 billion rubles
At the end of 2023, the volume of the Russian cosmetology market reached 269 billion rubles. Compared to the previous year, when the turnover was estimated at 247.8 billion rubles, the growth was 8.6%. Such data are provided in the BusinesStat report, published in mid-April 2024.
The statistics take into account the revenue of clinics and cosmetology offices from the provision of services in a number of areas. These include hardware, injection and laser cosmetology, massage and SPA procedures, plastic surgery, aesthetic cosmetology and hair removal. Among the leading players in this market in the Russian Federation are named JSC IPHiK, LLC Selin Medikal Group, LLC Center for Cosmetology and Plastic Surgery, LLC SP and LLC Parallelepiped.
Analysts note that in the period from 2019 to 2023, the industry showed heterogeneous dynamics. In particular, in 2020, against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for cosmetology services decreased by 14.8% - to 215.2 billion rubles. In connection with self-isolation, people refused visits to cosmetology clinics and offices, fearing infection. But already in 2021, the market began to recover: its turnover increased on an annualized basis by 15.2%, amounting to 247.9 billion rubles. In 2022, costs practically did not change, having decreased by 0.1% year-on-year, to 247.8 billion rubles.
The stagnation of real incomes of consumers and the reduction in the number of visits to cosmetology clinics interrupted the recovery growth of the segment, the study notes. |
The market returned to growth again in 2023. At the same time, in order to retain permanent patients and attract new visitors, many clinics and cosmetology offices sought to limit the rise in prices for services and held various promotions. In general, from 2019 to 2023, the turnover of the cosmetology industry in Russia increased by 6.6%.[2]
Growth of Russian cosmetology spending to a record 269 billion rubles
In 2023, Russians spent approximately 269 billion rubles on cosmetology services, which is a record value for at least several previous years. Cost growth in relation to 2022 was recorded at 8.6%, as stated in the BusinesStat study, the results of which were released on April 18, 2024.
The report notes that the turnover of the market under consideration in the Russian Federation in 2019 amounted to approximately 253 billion rubles. In 2020, against the background of restrictions imposed in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, the cost of cosmetology services decreased to 215 billion rubles. Then the industry began to recover: in 2021, its volume increased to 247.9 billion rubles. In 2022, the demand for cosmetology among Russians remained at the level of the previous year, amounting to about 247.8 billion rubles.
InAccording to the Vedomosti newspaper, representatives of Russian clinics are talking about a significant market growth. In particular, dermatovenerologist, cosmetologist of the online insurance company BestDoctor Lev Kulkov reported that on average in 2023 there was an increase in attendance by 10% compared to 2022. In the Medsi group of companies (owned by AFK Sistema), the demand for cosmetology services rose by about 26% on an annualized basis. At the Institute of Beauty on Arbat, cosmetological services in 2023 were used 19% more often than a year earlier, while revenue in this area rose by 21%.
Expert in the construction of medical businesses, consultant Leon Abeyadira notes that in 2023, patients significantly increased interest in hardware cosmetology, which includes exposure to the skin of laser, ultrasound, etc. On the other hand, the demand for thread lifting has decreased. According to DSM Group CEO Sergei Shulyak, the positive dynamics of the market as a whole may be due to the fact that cosmetology services are becoming an integral part of the life of Russians.[3]
South Korean analogue of Botox entered the Russian market

2022
Increase in the production of cosmetic products by 47.6% to 1.39 million packages
In 2022, 1.39 million packages of cosmetic drugs were produced in Russia, which is 47.6% more than in the previous year. This was reported in the market research agency "GuideMarket" in mid-June 2023.
It follows from the report that the volume of the market in question in 2022 not only turned out to be a record, but also showed the fastest growth rate in the last few years. The rise is due to the receipt of registration certificates and the launch of the production of several brands of drugs, as well as an increase in the volume of production and variety of the range of existing market players.
In 2021, the market also received an additional impetus for the demand postponed in the crisis year 2020 from consumers - doctors, clinics and end consumers of the population.
In 2022, Russian manufacturers faced a decrease in imports and a shortage of some popular foreign drugs, which led to partial import substitution on the market. This factor has become one of the growth drivers for Russian manufacturers.
Despite the fact that the growth rate of production in physical terms is lower than in value terms, the market for injectable cosmetology drugs continues to develop. Russian manufacturers are actively working to increase production and expand the range to meet the growing demand from consumers.
According to analysts BusinesStat, sales of cosmetics in Russia in 2018-2022. decreased by 2.6%: from 3.49 to 3.40 billion units. Sales declined smoothly in 2018-2020. against the background of a decrease in the population of the country along with market saturation. In 2021, sales for the only time in five years increased by 6.4% and reached 3.69 billion units, which was explained, on the one hand, by the restoration of business activity after restrictive measures due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic in 2020, on the other hand, by the implementation of demand postponed due to non-operating stores. In 2022, as a result of the crisis, cosmetics sales in Russia again decreased by 7.9% at once and amounted to 3.4 billion units.[4]
Cosmetology clinics in Russia lose doctors and income
In April 2023, the National Association of Aesthetic Medicine Clinics (NAKEM) published a study on the situation on the Russian market of cosmetic services. According to experts, 2022 turned out to be a difficult year for clinics engaged in this business: the turnover and flow of patients fell.
According to a survey of the heads of Russian cosmetology clinics, 65% of respondents noted that the gross turnover of their clinics decreased by more than 20%. The growth of gross turnover by more than 20% in 2022 was noted by only 17% of respondents.
The loss of primary patients was felt by 52% of respondents, 62% say about the total drop in the number of patients. The number of primary patients and the increase in the total number is noted by a third of respondents.
Almost half of respondents (45%) were forced to raise prices in 2022, 20% say they did not change them, and 35% even reduced prices. At the same time, the majority (45%) have an average check of 5,000-10,000 rubles.
The NAKEM data confirm the results of a study by the GxP News Analytical Bureau conducted in the fall-winter of 2022. According to this study, Moscow clinics found themselves in the most difficult situation, especially those that focused on a highly profitable audience. In 2022, many clinics tried to hold prices and hold promotions in order not only to keep their permanent patients, but also to attract those who were looking for lower prices - due to this migration and there was an increase in the flow of primary patients.
The desire to keep prices at the same level and the active introduction of shares on procedures, combined with the loss of patients, could not but lead to a decrease in turnover.
Experts also note the trend of the departure of cosmetologists from clinics. 41% of clinic managers surveyed by NAKEM talk about the care of 10-20% of specialists. These data are very similar to those obtained by the Bureau of Analysis. Professional cosmetologists open their offices and join the ranks of "gray" specialists, making a full-fledged competition to clinics.[5]
