2025: Sales of IT equipment and software for waste management in the world reached $2.92 billion at the end of the year
In 2024, costs in the global IT equipment and waste management software market amounted to $2.92 billion. Moreover, more than a third of this volume fell on North America. Such data are provided in the Fortune Business Insights review published on March 20, 2025.
Analysts cite the growing focus on sustainability and reducing the negative impact on the environment as the key driver of the industry in question. To do this, various digital technologies and intelligent solutions are being introduced. - Containers with sensors. Such tanks provide data on filling in real time, which allows you to optimize the routes of garbage trucks and improve planning. This provides fuel economy and reduces operating costs.
- Data analysis platform. The information collected is analyzed using sophisticated software to identify trends, optimize waste collection routes and make strategic decisions.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning tools have a significant impact on the development of the industry. Integrating AI into digital waste management solutions, analysts say, has revolutionized the industry by streamlining processes, improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact. AI-based systems use advanced algorithms to analyze vast amounts of data, providing predictive modeling and tracking of waste accumulation, collection and disposal processes.
The expansion of the market is also facilitated by government initiatives aimed at introducing digital waste management solutions: these can be tax breaks or subsidies. In addition, requirements are introduced for the treatment, disposal, neutralization and disposal of municipal solid waste.
