2012: СТЭК.КОМ is service provider of the Iridium satellite communication system
The СТЭК.КОМ company announced in December, 2012 the beginning of rendering mobile satellite services of the Iridium system in Russia. Now modern services of a global satellite network in full accordance with the Russian legislation in the field of communication are available to state structures, the commercial organizations and individuals.
Opportunity there began works in the Russian market the American company Iridium Communications Inc. received thanks to fulfillment of requirements of the regulating authorities shown to networks of foreign operators.
The official status of provider and Iridium equipment supplier gives the chance of СТЭК.КОМ to offer a complex of the licensed mobile satellite services which includes voice telephone communication, data transmission, services of satellite tracking and monitoring, M2M services of telematics.
Especially for development of the new direction of business in СТЭК.КОМ the competence center of solutions Iridium which is engaged in development and deployment of integration applications for the different industry markets was created and also renders services in service user support of the Russian segment of a system.
Now the product portfolio of the company covers actually all line of the specialized equipment of the Iridium system, including antenna complexes and multifunction terminals of a broad spectrum of use:
- phones of personal satellite communication Iridium, including the latest development - Iridium Extreme™ Satellite Phone;
- equipment Iridium Pilot for the system of 'sea' communication Iridium OpenPort;
- the satellite modules / terminals Iridium for voice and technology (M2M) of types of communication;
personal satellite trackers are communicators.
2011
According to data of the international analytical agency COMSYS, the need for specialized satellite technologies for the organization of communication at the sea steadily grows – within the last 10 years demand for the satellite sea systems doubled. Today more than 10 thousand courts apply technology of Sea VSAT, and in five years, as expected, their quantity will grow more than twice, and the volume of all market will exceed 2 billion dollars.
In 2011 СТЭК.КОМ executed the big project on updating of telecommunication infrastructure of the fishing trawler "Sergey Makarevich" which is in operation at Murmansk 'Fishing Company 'Virma'. In the course of work the new satellite VSAT system showed impressive results – communication services were available even on the 75th degree of Northern latitude that is considered very critical even for L-range communication systems, widespread on the fleet. The uniqueness of this project is that onboard the vessel it was succeeded to implement the whole packet of multimedia services among which there is a transfer of the video image of a system of remote video surveillance, provision of services of Internet access and services of IP-telephony.
'In an asset of СТЭК.КОМ the whole pool of interesting sea projects on equipping by the systems of mobile VSAT of different courts, including the cruise river ships "Mstislav Rostropovich" and "Princess Victoria" and also ocean vessels - the Vladimir Sukhotsky survey vessel, the sailing Hope training ship and also the Hamadori yacht which are attributed to the Vladivostok ports', - Valery Kadetov, the head of department of projects with big corporate customers of СТЭК.КОМ company commented.
In October, 2011 СТЭК.КОМ announced obtaining the separate judgment of State Radio Frequency Commission at Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications Russia on selection of radio frequency bands in the Ku-range for rendering services of satellite communication of the VSAT standard on moving objects, in particular, on sea and river crafts during their movement. The uniqueness of this event consists that before the communication system of Ku-range were used only for creation of networks of fixed connection, and communication systems only of L-range were used to the organization of communication on the water transport.
Now domestic shipowners have an opportunity to equip the fleet with the modern broadband VSAT communication systems which allow to carry out complex upgrade of telecommunication infrastructure onboard and to implement the new services unavailable earlier promoting increase in security and quality of navigation.
Main advantages of the Sea VSAT systems in front of communication systems of L-range is high cost efficiency of their operation and considerable high-speed parameters. Practice of use of these systems showed that it is perhaps essential to optimize the budget of crew on communication due to cutting of costs for payment of large volumes of traffic and to provide a stable relation with the coast '100 times cheaper and 10 times faster' in comparison with other communication systems.
