Federal State Budgetary Institution Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (Federal State Budgetary Institution AANII) the oldest research establishment of Russia which is carrying out complex studying of polar regions of Earth. For October, 2019 AANII has the powerful scientific and technical potential, the highly qualified specialists having long-term experience of carrying out the thematic and forwarding works in the Arctic and Antarctic capable to solve at the modern level practically any problems of a research of patterns of natural processes of polar regions and providing requests of all interested branches of the economy of the country.
AANII performs complex researches in the Arctic and Antarctic in the field of a sea ledovedeniye, physics of ice, the ocean and waters of sushi, glaciology, oceanology, hydrochemistry, a hydrology of estuarial areas of the rivers, meteorology, interaction of the ocean and the atmosphere, geophysics, polar geography, interaction of a hull and other engineering constructions with ice; carries out engineering and geodetic researches on shelves of the freezing seas, executes hydrometeorological ensuring business activities in the Arctic and in the northwest of Russia; will organize and conducts sea and land expeditions in the Arctic and also – annual Antarctic expeditions.
