2019: Shareholding of Xiaomi for $1.8 billion at investments into $457 million
On January 18, 2019 it became known that the Apoletto Managers investment fund of Yury Milner holds shares of Xiaomi for the amount of $1.8 billion. The index of billionaires of the Bloomberg agency (Bloomberg Billionaires Index) which is updated daily on the basis of assessment of the assets belonging to entrepreneurs demonstrates to it.
By July of the 2018th when the Chinese smartphone manufacturer went public, the Russian businessman invested in the company about $457 million within several investment rounds.
Thus, the investment payback of Yury Milner in Xiaomi was almost quadruple though market capitalization of the company after the IPO was reduced more than by $18 billion by January 18, 2019.
Only since the beginning of 2019 of quotation of Xiaomi sank for 25% and reached a historic low, falling lower than 10 Hong Kong dollars ($1.3). To closing of the exchange on January 18, 2019 the cost of securities of vendor exceeded 10 Hong Kong dollars a little that is 4.3% more than rather previous day.
Securities of Xiaomi began to become cheaper quickly when the term of semi-annual prohibition on alienation of the shares acquired at the IPO (lock-up period) expired on January 9, 2019. Approximate transaction amount, proceeding from average quotations that day, was 6.145 billion Hong Kong dollars (about $783.6 million).
According to documents from the Hong Kong stock exchange, by January 9, 2019 Apoletto owned 4.99% of the stocks of Xiaomi entered on listing of the exchange. About 3.5% of securities were distributed between investors therefore the share of Apoletto appeared below a threshold when the exchange requires to disclose information. Therefore it is unknown whether investors sold shares.
