2019: Start of an initiative
At the beginning of 2020 the companies Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi which are among the largest Chinese smartphone manufacturers, announced global start of an initiative of Peer-to-Peer Transmission Alliance assuming development and implementation of technology of wireless data exchange between devices.
Partners agreed about use of uniform service for fast data transmission between smartphones at a speed about 20 MB/s without connection to the Internet.
Fundamentals of technology are standards Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The first is applied to creation of communication between two devices. The second – for fast data transmission on the basis of Wi-Fi Direct (Wi-Fi of P2P (Peer to Peer). For users it will look as an additional option in the menu of transfer.
The new wireless transmission system of files does not require use of any third-party applications or network data. With its help it will be possible to transfer photos, video, music, documents and other files.
For transfer of content to users it will be necessary to include on the Wi-fi and Bluetooth phone, to select the file for sending and the addressee. If at the user to whom data are addressed the same function is included, on his device the notification emerges. After confirmation the selected files will be transferred.
At the first stage direct file sharing will be adjusted only between products of Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi. However the companies invite to cooperation and other producers.
It is the important first step for Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi jointly to service the users. We also welcome participation of other smartphone manufacturers on Android and providing more open, easy and interactive opportunities to them — the vice president of Oppo and the president of division on software development Andy Wu said. |
Support of Peer-to-Peer Transmission will begin to appear on the Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo smartphones in the different markets since February, 2020.[1]
