2020: Opening of India's 5G Innovation Lab
On December 22, 2020, Oppo announced the opening of its first 5G innovation laboratory at a research and development center in Hyderabad (India). The company was created with the aim of further developing the main product technologies for 5G ecosystems. The lab's opening is designed to accelerate 5G commercialization and India's technological presence in one of the fastest-growing areas.

According to Oppo representatives, the company has made a significant contribution to the formation of fifth-generation mobile standards, as well as product development, applications and innovation. The company also contributed to a global breakthrough towards a single 3GPP standard in 2015. By September 2020, Oppo had submitted more than 3,000 5G-related proposals to 3GPP and filed more than 1,000 patent groups with ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute). In addition, Oppo is among the top ten global companies in terms of the number of declared 5G patent groups, according to the Japanese research institute NGB Corporation.
As noted, Oppo is opening three additional functional laboratories in India, created for research and development to improve camera performance, capacity and performance. These labs will focus on developing the latest technologies for use worldwide.
