2023: Telecom infrastructure operator "New Towers" bought the regional tower company "Artel"

On July 6, 2023, the New Towers group, which calls itself the leader in the Russian telecommunications infrastructure market, announced the purchase of the Artel regional tower company, whose portfolio includes more than 230 communication facilities (most of them are located in Moscow, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Ryazan regions and the Republic of Bashkortostan).

According to the press service of New Towers, Artel facilities are used by the Big Four telecom companies (MTS, MegaFon, VimpelCom, Tele2), each tower has equipment for one or two telecom operators. As for the portfolio of the company "New Towers," by July 2023 it has 31,500 objects in the territory of 85 regions of Russia.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, the Russian tower infrastructure market began to consolidate in 2021. Thus, VimpelCom sold its portfolio (15.4 thousand towers) to Service-Telecom, MegaFon - 17 thousand towers of Kismet Capital Group (KCG) Ivan Tavrin. VimpelCom's asset was valued at 70 billion rubles as part of the transaction, MegaFon - at 94.2 billion rubles. MTS also hoped to sell its towers (23 thousand. AMS), but amid a shortage of equipment for network development due to sanctions, market development slowed down. It is noted that by 2023, Service-Telecom still claims the MTS asset[1]
