2021: Linux Foundation launches asynchronous API project
At the end of March 2021, the Linux Foundation announced the launch of an asynchronous open source API project known as the AsyncAPI Initiative. The product is already used by several large corporate technology companies.
According to the Linux Foundation, the AsyncAPI includes both a specification and a set of open source tools that are designed to work with asynchronous application programming interfaces and event-driven architectures.
The AsyncAPI specification combines documentation automation and code generation, focusing on managing, testing, and monitoring asynchronous APIs. It also provides access to the programming language to describe the interface of event-driven systems, regardless of their underlying technology, and supports the full development lifecycle of the event-driven architecture. AsyncAPI is considered a sister project of OpenAPI Initiative, which is focused on synchronous REST communication and is also supported by the Linux Foundation.
The Linux Foundation said that AsyncAPI is one of the fastest growing API specifications by April 2021, citing a developer survey conducted by R Software. Its results show that the use of AsyncAPI in the production environment tripled from 2019 to 2020. AsyncAPI is supported by a number of well-known companies, including Salesforce, SAP SE, PayPal, Slack, Postman and Adidas.
It was incredible to watch how flourishing, AsyncAPI said Salesforce spokesman Matt McLarty. - In my opinion, its progress was due to two key principles: focusing on solving real problems and focusing on the community. As the world of synchronous API and event-based communications integrates, AsyncAPI plays a vital role in ensuring a level playing field for API development.[1] |
