History

2022: Acquisition by SentinelOne for $616.5 million

The developer of funds information security based on artificial intelligence SentinelOne March 15, 2022 announced the acquisition of Attivo Networks for $616.5 million.

SentinelOne buys IB vendor Attivo Networks for $616 million

Attivo Networks is an identity-based information security provider. Identity Threat Detection is a relatively new term that refers to the paradigm of ensuring security based on the correct identification of communication entities on the network, whatever they represent - physical or virtual devices, clouds or users.

Attivo Networks uses bait-based security technology to lure cybercriminals and force them to reveal themselves, giving companies a better idea of how hackers are trying to access their systems. Attivo Deception and Response Platform from Attivo Networks provides continuous visibility and threat management for user networks, data centers, clouds, branch offices, the Internet of Things, industrial management systems such as control and data collection systems, and point-of-sale environments, according to the vendor's website.

The press release SentinelOne cites the words of the company's operations director Nikolas Warner (Nicholas Warner), who calls the identification "a new perimeter." According to him, Identity Threat Detection is the "missing link in the holistic strategy" of XDR (Extended Detection and Response - systems for advanced detection and response to cyber incidents).

SentinelOne acquires Attivo Networks just to fill this missing link in its XDR platforms. XDR are systems that are designed to collect and analyze data from many sources - primarily protective tools - in order to detect emerging threats before real harm is done.

Our outstanding performance was driven by the strength of our XDR platform combined with a constant focus on innovation and execution. For SentinelOne, Attivo Networks technology will improve Singularity XDR, which offers standalone protection. The acquisition of Attivo Networks is a natural development of a platform to protect organizations from threats at every stage of the attack lifecycle, "said SentinelOne Chief Executive Officer Tomer Weingarten.

As of March 2022, Attivo Networks raised $60.1 million, according to Crunchbase. Investors included Singtel Innov8, Bain Capital, Energy Impact Partners, Forgepoint Capital and Omidyar Technology Ventures. In the future, SentinelOne predicts income of $74-75 million in the first quarter of FY 2023 and $366-370 million for the entire FY 2023.

XDR is considered the most advanced approach to implementing a data protection strategy, but such systems are usually available only to large businesses. At the beginning of 2022, according to Gartner, only 5% of organizations in the world use XDR platforms. But by 2027, this figure is expected to reach 40%.

XDR systems are effective only when they cover the full range of possible sources of threats and provide multi-layer protection, "says Alexey Vodysov, technical director of SEQ. - SentinelOne obviously plans to equip his proposal with another "defensive echelon" - in accordance with market demands and current ideas about what protection should be considered effective.

The acquisition of Attivo reportedly continues the consolidation trend predicted by analysts at Wedbush Securities after the Google bought company Mandiant for $5.4 billion. This deal was also aimed at enhancing the ability to protect in data. According cloud environments to Wedbush analysts, now other players such as Amazon and Microsoft will have to make some major acquisitions in the field of data protection.

The deal between SentinelOne and Attivo will be completed in the second quarter of 2022. Attivo Networks technologies will become part of the Singularity XDR platform.[1]
