History
2022: Google buys IB developer Mandiant for $5.4 billion
On March 8, 2022, it became known that Google announced the acquisition of Mandiant for $5.4 billion.
Mandiant is a company specializing in information security, in particular, digital forensics and incident response. The company was founded in 2004. In 2013, it was bought by a rival company FireEye for $1.05 billion, which at that time was ten times higher than Mandiant's annual turnover.
Seven and a little years later, FireEye and Mandiant again separated: the business of producing IB solutions passed into the possession of Symphony Technology Group for $1.2 billion; at the very beginning of 2022, FireEye and another IB company McAfee Enterprise purchased by STG were merged into a structure called Trellix.
Mandiant again gained independence, but now it is absorbed by Google.
As noted in the material of the agency Reuters, the deal with Google can cause a "chain reaction" in the information security market.[1] In recent weeks, demand for information security solutions has sharply increased in the world, and it is expected that by 2026 the IB market could reach $352.25 billion.
Mandiant was also claimed by the corporation, Microsoft but in the end Google prevailed.
With Mandiant solutions, Google intends to strengthen its cloud solutions; the corresponding division brings the company up to $19 billion a year, while requests for data security in the clouds are constantly growing.
This is probably not the last such acquisition, "said Anastasia Melnikova, director of information security at SEQ. - For large cloud solution providers, buying a relevant vendor of information protection tools is both a strategic investment and a good PR move. The fact that a huge amount has been paid for Mandiant indicates Google's extensive plans to strengthen the security of its clouds. |
Completion of the transaction is scheduled for the coming months.
2021: Separation from FireEye via a deal with Symphony Technology Group
In early June 2021, FireEye announced the sale of its IBM business to a consortium led by private investment company Symphony Technology Group (STG) for $1.2 billion. It is assumed that the transaction will be closed by the end of the fourth quarter of 2021.
The transaction, which the buyer will pay with cash (without raising shares), will separate FireEye, a manufacturer of network infrastructure and cybersecurity products, from Mandiant's digital forensics and incident response division.
At the same time, the ticker of Mandiant shares on NASDAQ was renamed from FEYE to MNDT.
2013: FireEye bought Mandiant for $1.05 billion
At the end of December 2013, Mandiant was announced to be sold to FireEye for $1.05 billion. The transaction value turned out to be 10 times the annual turnover of Mandiant.
